The Rev. Theodora J. "Dora" McLean, a registered nurse who was a founder and associate pastor of Christian Unity Temple Christian Community Church, died July 22 from complications of a stroke at Sinai Hospital. The Halethorpe resident was 82. The daughter of a blacksmith and a homemaker, the former Theodora J. Jackson was born one of 10 children in Nelson County, Va., where she was raised and graduated in 1950 from Nelson County High School. She moved to Baltimore and in 1950 married Joseph Lee McLean Sr., who worked at Eastern Stainless Steel Co. The 1990s saw the ascent of a slew of great rock bands: Nirvana, Pavement, Pearl Jam, Phish, Rage Against the Machine and a few more you're probably naming in your head right now. Stone Temple Pilots was and is only a very good rock band, but if the weather and perennially troubled lead singer Scott Weiland cooperate at Pier Six on Tuesday , they'll do just fine. Without a doubt, this band can play. Along with the Seattle-ites, Dean DeLeo helped rock guitar get back to its meaty, blues-based roots in the '90s, following the limp, classically influenced shredder craze that ruled the '80s.

Maryland coach Gary Williams won't commit to using the same starting lineup after a loss to Temple in which the starters — except center Jordan Williams — came under criticism. The Terps (6-3) host UNC-Greensboro (0-7) on Wednesday night. The lineup "will be clear at about 6:15 [Tuesday night after practice] and I'm not going to tweet it," the coach said Tuesday. "Why would you tell Greensboro who we're going to start? I'm not that nice. " Senior starters Cliff Tucker, Adrian Bowie and Dino Gregory and junior starter Sean Mosley all found themselves benched for extended periods of the 64-61 loss to Temple on Sunday night in the BB&T Classic in Washington D.C. "The best message is the second half when we subbed.

Maryland coach Gary Williams often opens post-game comments by saying he was proud of his team. Not Sunday night. After the Terps lost 64-61 to Temple in the BB&T Classic, a grim Williams said he was displeased with a number of his starters for not doing a better job attacking the Owls' packed-in defense. "I was mad," Williams said. "We can't throw it in to Jordan [Williams] and stand around and have everybody watch him. " Williams' frustration had been evident in his substitution patterns.

Following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Sikhs in the United States have been murdered, stabbed, harassed, removed from airplanes, fired from jobs, and refused service in public establishments, among other things. This mistreatment is based on their appearance and is because Americans generally are unaware of Sikhs or Sikh identity. Sikhs are members of a progressive, monotheistic religion founded in 15th century South Asia. Male Sikhs, who are required to cover their heads and refrain from cutting their hair, traditionally wear turbans and have beards.

Frederick County police say a multi-agency effort has led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man suspected of robbing eight banks between October and January. Earl Macvernon Pegram was arrested Thursday in Temple Hills. Police say he robbed banks in Glen Burnie, Crofton, Frederick, Waldorf and Falls Church, Va. In each robbery, Pegram told the teller to put money into a bag and never displayed a weapon, police said. After Comstar Federal Credit Union was robbed Dec. 4 in Frederick, investigators obtained video footage of the getaway car. Though the tag number wasn't visible, police determined they were looking for a 2002 Buick LeSabre with Maryland agricultural tags.

Intracity rivalries proved costly Sunday for ranked teams as first No. 3 Villanova fell to Temple in Philadelphia and then Xavier went double overtime to quash No. 19 Cincinnati in the Queen City. Juan Fernandez's early 3s kept Temple close, his first one of the second half gave the Owls (8-2) the lead and his big ones late in the game helped clinch their biggest regular-season victory in nearly 10 years. By the time Temple fans bellowed "Overrated!" and stormed the court, Villanova's perfect record and city dominance were finished.
