Woodmoor Elementary School in Lochearn was placed on lockdown briefly Monday after a 14-year-old boy was spotted with a BB gun outside the school, Baltimore County police said. School officials put the building at 3200 Elba Drive on lockdown shortly before 4 p.m., after classes were over for the day, said Cpl. Cathy Batton, a police spokeswoman. "At no point was the school threatened," Batton said. The boy had discussed the gun with some girls near the school as he waited for his little brother, she said.

After school three days a week, Alexis Corbin, 16, a junior at Carver Vocational-Technical High School, walks the short distance to Coppin State University. There, she and 10 other students participate in the Comcast Digital Connectors Program at the Coppin Heights-Rosemont Family Computer Center on campus. They learn about computers, financial literacy and leadership, and in turn bring their knowledge to the community, by leading classes on such topics as how to use social media, operate cell phones or create website pages.

A 14-year-old has been charged as an adult in the death of his 7-month old sister, who was found unresponsive inside a White Oak apartment Friday, according to Montgomery County police. Police said Larissa Yanes was found unresponsive by her mother, who went to work Thursday night, leaving the infant with her bother, 14-year-old Jonathan Aguiluc. After Gloria Yanes left for work at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, police said Aguiluc beat his sister when she started to cry, and covered her mouth and nose with his hands until she stopped.

From Liz Atwood: I can't believe I've come to the point where I actually would like to see the kids wasting their time playing video games. What has driven me to this drastic change? Lately the kids have taken to wasting their time texting friends and posting pictures on Instagram and Twitter. Their new preoccupation with social media sets up a whole new challenge. In the past, I only needed to look at the rating on a game box to get a sense of whether the content was inappropriate.

UPDATE: A Baltimore jury has found Michael Maurice Johnson guilty of second-degree murder in the killing Phylicia Barnes, a North Carolina teenager whose body was found in the Susquehanna River in 2011, months after a mysterious disappearance that drew national attention. Lawyers on both sides had acknowledged in closing arguments that the evidence against Johnson was circumstantial. But while defense attorneys described flaws and inconsistencies, prosecutors said the facts pointed to Johnson as the only reasonable suspect.

When Phylicia Barnes' disappearance drew national attention two years ago, it prompted calls for stronger response to reports of missing children - particularly minorities. Some who made those pleas said Wednesday that Michael Maurice Johnson's conviction in Barnes' murder validated their efforts. The case spurred the General Assembly to pass "Phylicia's Law" in 2012, promoting better coordination of law enforcement and search efforts in the crucial first hours after children go missing.

To Deontae Smith's mother, there was no question her son had been to the Super Bowl parade on Tuesday. And she's upset that Baltimore police didn't make the same connection sooner. Deontae was fatally stabbed outside a McDonald's restaurant at Howard and Fayette streets downtown during a fight involving a large group of teens three blocks from the parade route, police said. Two other teens were also injured, and no suspect has been identified. Baltimore police said Tuesday that the stabbing incidents weren't related to the parade but said Wednesday that they believed Smith had been at the parade.

Three teens were stabbed, one fatally, in downtown Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, near the route of the parade celebrating the Ravens Super Bowl victory, police said. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the stabbing occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Howard and West Fayette streets. He said one of the three victims, a juvenile, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed into surgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, where the youth died. The other two stabbing victims were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

I was eating at the McDonald's at Columbia mall and was disrupted by a group of young kids fighting. My concern is that this was not just two kids fighting but a group of kids with a fighting mentality that could potentially endanger the other patrons there. Now I have seen this type of behavior happen many times before and it always happens around the McDonald's restaurant on Friday and Saturday evenings. The first thing I would suggest you do is have more security at the McDonald's because things always seem to start there and then move upstairs, which is potentially dangerous because the crowd grows larger.
