Ravens cornerback Corey Fuller exchanged gunfire with an intruder outside his Tallahassee, Fla., home early yesterday, a spokeswoman for the Leon County Sheriff's Department said. The gunman came out of some woods and confronted Fuller and a house guest, who had gone outside to a car at 2:20 a.m., Lt. Linda Butler said. Fuller fled back into the house, locked the door and retrieved a .38-caliber revolver from his safe. The assailant, who was dressed all in black and was wearing a mask, then broke into the house, where there were five or six people, according to police documents.

COLLEGE PARK -- They came to Cole Field House last night feeling the aftershock of their worst defeat of the season and, for the first few minutes of their Atlantic Coast Conference game against Florida State, the Maryland Terrapins looked uncertain and uninspired.After spotting the Seminoles an early 10-point lead, the 10th-ranked Terrapins found themselves with their defense. They went on a huge run in the first half that proved to be the catalyst for their 73-57 victory, and put Florida State away with another run in the second half.

Sailing Greenwald finishes first at NOOD Regatta Overcoming a field of 49 boats in the J/70 class, Bennet Greenwald of San Diego took first place aboard the Perseverance in the highly competitive division and was named overall winner at the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta in Annapolis on Sunday. The honor distinguishes Greenwald and his crew — Jeff Madrigali , Steven Pickel and Morgane Renoir — as the top performers throughout the three-day race, which featured 15 boat classes and more than 1,000 sailors.

Tyler Hibbs, who lost his baseball scholarship to Florida State after he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and intent to distribute Feb. 26, yesterday committed to Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College. In March, Hibbs, a two-time All-Metro selection and The Sun's All-Metro Player of the Year in 2006, was removed from Arundel High by Anne Arundel County and placed in an alternative-learning situation as a night-school student at Meade High. Because he wasn't enrolled at Arundel, Hibbs couldn't play baseball this spring.

Bishop John H. Ricard, who served 13 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, is alert and resting comfortably after suffering a stroke Tuesday, according to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. The 69-year-old bishop was upgraded from critical to serious condition at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where he was admitted with symptoms of a stroke, according to the diocese. A CT scan confirmed the stroke. Ricard was a popular auxilliary bishop in Baltimore from 1984 until 1997, when he was named by Pope John Paul II to head the Pensacola-Tallahassee diocese.
