It is little wonder that a public and media starved for good news made so much of Tabitha the cat, who was lost in the cargo hold of a Boeing 747 for 12 days and flew 30,000 miles before being rescued.Carol Ann Timmel, the 3-year-old cat's owner, found the animal with the aid of a psychic after the airline and a professional animal rescue company failed in their searches.Timmel filed a lawsuit to force the airline to ground the plane so she could conduct her own search. The New York Post published a large picture of Tabitha's sibling, Pandora, after a psychic said that, if readers stared into Pandora's eyes, Tabitha would be found.

The Legend of Creepy Hollow is a zany, play-as-you-go murder mystery. This interactive show, presented by Do or Die Productions Saturday attracted an enthusiastic audience of about 40 would-be detectives to the Studio Theater at Chesapeake Center for the Creative Arts. The intimate theater lends itself to informal presentations that allow the actors to mingle easily with the audience, exchanging pleasantries that might contain valuable clues. All seven actors remained in character throughout the evening, playing Creepy Hollow neighbors living in a town famous for its cursed Craven family.

Stephen King offers bubble gum to a visitor, who declines. "But it's strawberry," he wheedles. "Maybe later," she relents. "Great," says King with a whoop. "My mother told me any girl who chews will smoke. If she smokes she'll drink. If she drinks she'll do everything bad." Most authors don't start interviews by quoting their mothers and blowing bubbles. But King, the irrepressible horror cult hero, is the planet's richest, most famous and most prolific scary writer. And he can do just about any darned adolescent thing he wants.

The Maryland Combined Training Association usually goes by the initials MCTA. At the awards banquet celebrating its 25th year last weekend, it could have used the initials M-CAT.The guest of honor at the Turf Valley Country Club affair was a feline named Tabitha, who disproved the widely held theory that cats are untrainable. Tabitha's owner, Robin Miller Brueckmann, is a horsewoman and dressage judge who works at the Thorncroft Therapeutic Center.Brueckmann introduced Tabitha as a "purebred, registered, imported Texas barn cat."
