Border agents at Baltimore Washington International Airport say they arrested a Columbia man wanted in Howard County on child sex abuse and child pornography charges. Jeremy Henry Sykes, 43, arrived at the airport on a flight from Mexico, and agents identified him Monday as the man wanted on a Howard County warrant, according to the border agency. He was turned over to Howard County police. "This latest arrest of another alleged child sex predator again illustrates the vigilance of CBP officers in intercepting those travelers that our laws identify as needing further scrutiny," said Dianna Bowman Acting CBP Port Director for the Port of Baltimore.

Is Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" finally getting the respect it deserves? Maybe. Last fall, Bernstein protege Marin Alsop led the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in performances of this audaciously eclectic "Theatre piece for Singers, Players and Dancers" that generated large, enthusiastic crowds in Baltimore, Washington and New York. There were glowing notices in most of the press, too, with little of the dismissive attitude that greeted the 1971 premiere of "Mass" at the opening of the Kennedy Center.

There's nothing un-funnier than Saturday night's jokes reviewed by the caffeinated light of Monday morning. Which is why we probably shouldn't quarterback a comedian over coffee when she was performing for a crowd primed on cocktails. That reasonable rule seems not to apply, however, when the venue is the White House Correspondents' Association dinner and one of the revelers happens to be the president of the United States. Whether he laughs, smiles or frowns carries political freight far beyond the moment.

Wanda Sykes remembers those fun days back at the National Security Agency, a time filled with all the laughter and frivolity one would expect at the super-secret intelligence-gathering facility adjacent to Fort Meade. OK, that's a stretch. Truth is, humor and the NSA don't exactly go together. And even though Sykes would eventually morph into one of America's top comedians, her six-year stint as a purchasing agent at the NSA wasn't what made her funny. If you go Wanda Sykes performs at 8 tonight at the Lyric Opera House, 140 W. Mount Royal Ave. Tickets, which are $36.50, are available at the box office, by calling 410-547-7328 or by going to ticketmaster.
