They picked up their first win last week, 42-7, at Swarthmore, behind three touchdown passes from freshman Wayne Roccia to junior Mark Guzzo. Hopkins allowed Swarthmore only 167 yards in total offense, just 12 in the first half. In two games, King's College has allowed an average of 334 yards and committed 10 turnovers. Hopkins defeated King's last year, 35-6, in the first meeting between these schools, piling up 451 yards in offense.

No. 17 Washington's 13-11 loss to No. 13 Gettysburg Saturday night gave the Bullets sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference. But all is not lost for the Shoremen. Washington (8-3 overall and 5-1 in the league) can still capture the regular-season conference title and top seed and homefield advantage in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Shoremen must beat Swarthmore (4-8, 1-4) Wednesday night at home and then take care of Ursinus (5-7, 1-4) April 28. Meanwhile, Gettysburg (9-3, 5-0)

BOSTON -- Swarthmore College decided yesterday to readmit a student who was suspended last year in a sexual harassment dispute, but the student may choose to continue attending Boston University, where he spent the spring and summer studying engineering.Swarthmore officials said Ewart Yearwood, now a sophomore, had fulfilled the conditions of his one-semester suspension, in particular undergoing counseling, and would be readmitted without conditions.Mr. Yearwood was accused of sexually harassing and stalking a fellow student, Alexis Clinansmith, last fall.

Ulysses Kay, 78, a prolific classical composer whose works often focused on fellow blacks, such as Frederick Douglass, and were performed by top orchestras throughout the United States, died Saturday at his Teaneck, N.J., home. He produced more than 135 pieces, including five operas, 20 large orchestral works and more than 30 choral compositions. Among the orchestras that played his music were the New York Philharmonic, the National Symphony and the Dallas Symphony.Peter van de Kamp, 93, the Dutch astronomer and Swarthmore College professor who searched for planets in other solar systems, died May 18 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Terence Hood scored a game-high 25 points to lead host Delaware State to a 75-68 win over Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's game last night.Delaware State (7-13, 6-5) trailed 36-35 at the half, but tied the score at 38 on a layup by Chris Nurse. Nurse finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Brian Parker added 11 points.Rasheed Sparks, Dwayne Holmes and Paul Grant all lead Morgan State (4-17, 3-7) with 15.* Swarthmore 61, Washington 53: Ben Schall scored 15 to lead visiting Swarthmore (8-12, 4-6)

Harry D. Gotwals, a former official at the Johns Hopkins University, Goucher College and Gilman School, died of a heart attack Oct. 2 at his home in Swarthmore, Pa. He was 50.He had been vice president for alumni, development and public relations at Swarthmore College since 1990.Mr. Gotwals was development officer at Hopkins from 1971 to 1976, when he became assistant headmaster for development at Gilman. He was vice president for development and public relations at Goucher College from 1982 to 1985, and associate vice president and director of development at Duke University until 1990.

Washington College relied on a balanced attack, as five players scored in double figures to defeat Villa Julie, 83-74, last night in Chestertown. Aaron Goode had 16 points and Earl Piner chipped in 14 for the Shoremen (9-9). Ryan Plews scored 10 points and added 13 rebounds in the victory. The Mustangs (5-14) were led by Brian Hubbard, with 20 points, and Brock Jourdan and Jermaine Smith, who each contributed 14. Women Elizabeth City 86, Bowie State 70: Daminicia Moody scored a game-high 26 points to lead the visiting Vikings (7-10)
