As a person who lives with recurring clinical depression and also is the facilitator of a local Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance support group for people with mood disorders and their loved ones, I thank Mark Hanna for his eloquent description of depression and plea for public understanding of this disease and compassion for people living with it ( "Robin Williams' death holds lessons for the living," Aug. 18). Additionally, I thank Pastor Hanna for generously providing space for, and encouragement to, our support group.

When my cat Atticus died, I was a wreck. We got a call from a neighbor who found his little tabby body in the street. He'd been hit by a car. My husband (at the time) scooped him up and brought him home to the garage and left the cat there, as he had to fly off on a business trip. Long story short: A day later, I had an Episcopal priest in my backyard, giving my cat a send-off as we buried him (probably illegally). It made me feel a little better, standing with my friends, giving Atticus, a great feline, his due. At some point, I stopped continuously crying and shaking.

The founder of FirefighterWife.com, she wants to help reduce divorce and "strengthen, ignite and rescue firefighter marriages. " "When you see death and destruction, that's a lot to process," the 41-year-old mother of four said. "There's a whole lot of stress on a relationship on top of how tough marriage already is. I want to thank U.S. Sen. Cory Booker for his article, "Parkinson's takes a toll on families, too" (April 23). I have Parkinson's, and my caregivers are my husband and my 24-year-old daughter. I can't tell you what I would do if I did not have them. I have no friends or family who check in on me unless they see me, then they ask how am I doing. Mr. Booker's mother was so lucky to have a support group that came around to see her and help out. Thank you very much for your positive article.
