Sulphur Springs Lions Club held its installation of officers for 1998-1999 recently.The new officers are LaRue Sipes, president; Bonnie Seibel-Talbert, secretary; and Frances Lowman, treasurer.Vice Governor-elect Clare Newcomer of Hagerstown installed the officers. She is the District 22-W chairwoman of the Lions' eye health program.At an earlier meeting, departing President Catherine Booth welcomed new member Coni Humphrey into the club. Lee Ogle was her sponsor.FireTaneytown: Firefighters responded to an investigation of fire in the area in the 500 block of Trevanion Terrace at 4: 22 p.m. Tuesday.

Jeff Lewatowski trudged upstream, the chilly, knee-deep Gunpowder River flowing around his waterproof overalls. Following the inside curve of a bend, he picked a likely looking spot and settled in, much like the trout he planned to catch. "They want to take advantage of the bugs," said Lewatowski, 39, who lives in Havre de Grace and guides fishing trips around the state. "They get very excitable the more bugs there are on the water. … They compete in a spot in the creek to sit. " May through June is sulphur mayfly season, with thousands of mayfly nymphs swimming up from sunken logs and rocks to molt and flutter away for their brief adult lives.

The $4.3 million Arbutus branch of Baltimore County's library system is winning rave reviews from its youngest to oldest patrons after officially reopening at a new location. While her mother watched from a cozy window seat, Emily Riesett celebrated her fifth birthday Monday playing at cake-baking in the children's area of the Sulphur Spring Road library. "It is the only thing she wanted to do for her birthday," Karen Riesett said of her daughter. "We just love how family-friendly it is here.

District governor speaks to Sulphur Springs Lions Sulphur Springs Lions Club met Sept. 11 to hear from District 22-W Gov. Margarito Ochoa, who spoke on the importance of working together to help those in need. She stressed that quality leaders and programs are needed. The organization will announce a new program for members younger than 35 years old. The club held a fund-raiser this month. Homemade apple dumplings were sold.
