John Stricker Middle School on Friday spread quickly over social media the night before, resulting in a message being sent to Baltimore County Superintendent Dallas Dance via Twitter. Dance, who has 10,000 Twitter followers, was sent a tweet at 9:31 p.m. saying, "Do something about this. " The message included a screen shot of another tweet that said, "Apparently there is a planned shooting supposed to happen at Stricker tomorrow. " Dance said he saw the tweet three minutes later and called administrators in charge of school safety.

NEWPORT, Wales — A surprising 6-4 lead for the United States team at midafternoon Saturday looked less rosy a few hours later as the Ryder Cup headed toward Sunday's hoped-for dramatics. Because of the deluge of rain that hit the course Friday and caused a seven-hour delay, Saturday turned into a patchwork, nonstop march of foursome and four-ball teams. After the completion of six foursome matches (in which two-man teams alternate shots), the U.S. and captain Corey Pavin were where they weren't supposed to be — ahead.

Even after carpet layer William S. Stricker retired nine years ago, he kept alive his habit of being handy: He would repaint the house on a whim, install bookshelves, put up walls, tile floors, and he would watch reruns of "Home Improvement."Stricker, a union carpet layer and floor setter, died in his sleep in his Catonsville home May 8. He was 69."He always had a lot of projects going," recalled his daughter Mary Jo Stricker of Catonsville. "Any time you ever needed anything fixed, he'd do it -- for the whole family."

REDMOND, Wash. -- They played the third round of the PGA Championship and the Quad City Classic broke out. Actually, we probably should be used to it by now. What is it about the PGA anyway? How can Steve Stricker and Vijay Singh be sitting there together, double-buckled in the front seat, two guys looking for their first major victory and apparently dead set on continuing the PGA's quirky tradition of handing the trophy to first-timers?Maybe it's tradition. For six PGA champions in the last 10 years, the PGA is their only major title.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -The "Paddy Slam" got buried on Augusta National's par-5 second hole Saturday. Padraig Harrington did the digging himself after taking a quadruple-bogey 9. After Harrington pulled his drive into the woods, he punished his ball with another shot that hit nothing but tree. "You live and learn," he said. By the time Harrington blasted out, his hopes for a third consecutive major title were all but gone. In one hole, Harrington went from 2-under-par to 2-over. He remained composed, though, shooting 3-under over the final 16 holes for a 1-over 73. He's at 1-under 215, 10 strokes behind co-leaders Angel Cabrera and Kenny Perry.
