Stony Brook's Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium was chosen Thursday as host for the 2013 and 2014 America East men's lacrosse championships, marking the first time the conference has predetermined a site for the event. The location was determined in a vote of the conference's athletic directors at their fall meetings. All three games of the 2013 America East championship will take place on Long Island for the first time, starting with the semifinals Thursday, May 2 and concluding with the title gameĀ  Saturday, May 4, which will be nationally televised on ESPNU at 10 a.m. Semifinal game times will be announced on a future date.

Lacrosse No. 17 Stony Brook women roll past Duquesne, 16-3 College women: Frankie Caridi made five saves and No. 17 Stony Brook (3-1) won, 16-3, against visiting Duquesne (2-3) on Thursday. The Seawolves, led by Janine Hillier and Demmianne Cook with five goals each, tied a program record for the fewest goals allowed in a single game for the second week in a row. Stony Brook beat Central Connecticut, 19-3, on Feb. 27. More colleges Terps ' Aronhalt named to ACC all-academic team Maryland guard Logan Aronhalt was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball all-academic team.

Et cetera Brenton gets Driesell honor for defense Stony Brook senior forward Tommy Brenton (River Hill) was named the winner of the Lefty Driesell Award as the National Defensive Player of the Year, CollegeInsider.com announced at its awards banquet Friday night in Atlanta. Brenton led the Seawolves in steals with 54 and was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Stony Brook ranks sixth in the nation in field-goal percentage defense (.378 percent)

The UMBC men's basketball team built an early lead against first-place Stony Brook on Tuesday but fell apart in the second half, losing to the Seawolves, 83-39. Senior guard Ryan Cook (St.Vincent Pallotti) led the Retrievers with 15 points. Stony Brook (11-2, 20-6 America East Conference) extended its winning streak in conference home games to 17. UMBC (4-9, 6-20) dropped its fourth consecutive game. UMBC made 10 of their first 19 shots, and a 3-pointer by Joey Getz gave the Retreivers a 23-14 advantage with 9:14 to play in the first half.

Women's college lacrosse Krause's 5 goals lift UMBC over Stony Brook, 10-8 Alicia Krause (Mount Hebron) scored five goals and host UMBC (8-4, 2-1 America East) used a four-goal run in the second half to take control and win, 10-8, over Stony Brook (3-8, 0-3) on Wednesday night. More state games: Lauriann Parker had two goals and four assists to lead visiting St. Mary's (9-5, 3-3 Capital Athletic Conference) to an 18-7 victory over Hood (4-9, 0-6)

Junior Rob Bailey and senior Jamie Slough each scored three goals as No. 11 Navy defeated Stony Brook, 12-6, yesterday at Dewey Field in Annapolis, keeping the Midshipmen's playoff hopes alive.Navy (7-5) jumped to a 7-2 lead in the first quarter after Bailey scored two goals, Slough one and Chaz Bertrand two. Stony Brook held Navy scoreless in the second quarter while scoring on a goal by Chris Kollmer.Slough scored back-to-back goals in the first seven minutes of the third quarter, widening the lead to 9-2. Courtney Wilson fired in his first goal of the day for the Mids with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Senior attackman Rob Bailey had a goal and three assists and No. 18 Navy ended a four-game skid with a 10-6 season-ending win over Stony Brook yesterday.Bailey became Navy's 14th all-time leading scorer with 107 points (70 goals, 37 assists).Senior Rich Costello scored two goals and added an assist and senior Matt Long and sophomore Chris Messineo each scored two goals.Navy (6-6) took a 5-1 lead in the first half and held off a 5-1 scoring run by Stony Brook (8-5) in the game's final 15 minutes.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Tommy Roszko had three goals and three assists as No. 9 Navy (8-3) defeated Stony Brook (3-10), 13-5, at Patriot Field yesterday.Stony Brook, which trailed 5-1 at the end of the first quarter, closed to within two during the second and trailed 7-4 at the half.Navy opened the third quarter with a 4-0 run, taking an 11-4 lead, to put the game out of reach.Jamie Slough and Charles Bertrend added three goals and one assist each for Navy.The Midshipmen will find out next Sunday where they'll be placed in the NCAA tournament when the selections are announced at 6 p.m.Navy, which is tied for 8th with Loyola and Virginia in the USILA coaches' poll, could host a first round game.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- UMBC rallied from an early three-goal deficit and survived four fourth-quarter goals by Stony Brook to win, 12-11, yesterday in a men's lacrosse game.The Retrievers (8-2), who have won four games in a row, ended a three-game win streak by Stony Brook (8-3).Trailing 3-0, UMBC scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter and led 9-6 at halftime. But the Seawolves cut the lead to one on Chris Kollmer's goal with 9: 34 left.UMBC's Andrew Hampson (24 saves) denied Stony Brook the equalizer despite facing 24 shots.
