Kudos to elected officials and the Stoneleigh community for deciding to make the "180-day field trip" move to the Carver Center for the Arts and Technology. This plan begs the question — why are we spending taxpayer dollars to update and expand the already overcrowded, antiquated Stoneleigh Elementary School? If Carver solves the problem and can accommodate more students, shouldn't Baltimore County taxpayers keep Stoneleigh students at this new location … permanently? Who knows what the total cost is to taxpayers for not only the Stoneleigh addition, but also the relocation of students back to this facility?

At Stoneleigh Elementary School south of Towson, classrooms are too crowded to hold all the students, so many classes are held in portable trailers parked outside. It's a common problem in Baltimore County's York Road corridor, where trailers are being used at eight of the 12 elementary schools from Stoneleigh to the Pennsylvania line. Now, county school officials are poised to offer some creative solutions — including moving Stoneleigh students more than a mile away to a school on the other side of Towson, and building a new school in Mays Chapel.

York Manor's 254-245 upset victory over Stoneleigh — the Sharks' first dual-meet loss in six years (also to the Makos) under coaches George Kennedy and Brian Loeffler — could have a ripple effect across Freestate Swim League pools for the rest of the season. That's because York Manor had already lost to Hampton, making each regular-season meet before the season-ending Trophy Meet all the more important. The Makos made sure it happened, rallying in the relays to prevail in the Sharks' pool for head coach Dani Korman and assistants Jeni Zeigler and Andrew Hogan Trailing by 16 points at the end of backstroke, York Manor came back to win eight of the 10 butterfly events to take a two-point lead.
