The Stewartstown Historical Society will hold its Country Fair Days July 17-22 at the Community Recreation Grounds in Stewartstown, Pa., in conjunction with the Eureka Fireman's Carnival, held each evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in a big-top tent on the midway. The event re-creates the atmosphere of 50 years ago, with home-and-garden and cooking competitions, agricultural displays, and 4-H competitions and demonstrations. Admission is free. WASHINGTON COLLEGE: Matt Ridge, a sophomore from Jarrettsville, recently performed as baritone/bass in the Washington College Chorus' spring concert, "History of Rock Opera," conducted by Lecturer in Music Douglas Byerly. Ridge is majoring in drama. On campus, he is actively involved with E.R.O.S. (Encouraging Respect of Sexuality) and is a member of the Washington College Chamber Singers. Ridge also performed in the college's production of Pterodactyls in the fall 2012 semester. He graduated from John Carroll School in Bel Air. ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY: The following local residents made the dean's list for winter 2013 quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology: Matthew Fuller of Stewartstown, Pa., a fourth-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences; and Aaron League of White Hall, a fifth-year student in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering.

I can only hope that the scourge of racism is finally purged from Stewartstown and Pinkham's Grant. These are two of 10 New Hampshire towns covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which requires local officials to get permission, or "preclearance," on any changes to their election laws. Stewartstown has just over a thousand souls in it and is 99 percent white. In 1970, when it was put under the authority of Section 5, the census listed two blacks out of its 1,008 residents.

On May 4, 2004 EDWARD SNOW RAYME of Stewartstown. Husband of Catherine (Stevens) Rayme; father of Jane R. Hoyt and the late Doris E. Morrissey. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sister Caroline Bishop. He was a former member and Elder of Govans Presbyterian Church, Baltimore and a member of the American Iron and Steel Engineering Assoc. He was employed with Bethlehem Steel for 39 years retiring from his position as General Foreman in 1978. He then became employed with General Carbide, Greensburg, PA. for 16 years retiring in 1995.

JOHN E. WARFIELD, 83, retired Vice President of the former Equitable Trust Bank, died of lung cancer Saturday, May 28, 2005. Born in Baltimore, his mother persuaded him in 1940 to apply for a position in banking. After starting as a runner, he retired in 1985 as Regional Vice President with 45 years of service. Mr. Warfield was drafted in 1942 into the U.S. Air Corps, serving in the South Pacific for four years. After retiring, he took up decoy carving and won ribbons at the Timonium State Fair and Catonsville Senior Center.

Mary E. Gott, a secretary and human resources worker, died Wednesday of lung cancer at her Stewartstown, Pa., home. The former Hamilton resident was 51. Born Mary Ellen Anft in Baltimore and raised on Westfield Avenue in Hamilton, she was a 1973 Northern High School graduate. She then worked as a secretary in the president's office at the Community College of Baltimore's Liberty Heights campus. In 1981 she became secretary to The Sun's composing room superintendent, Hugh Meadowcroft. She maintained personnel records for the department, which had 200 employees, researched and prepared information presented at employee arbitration cases, assisted with planning and preparing the department's budget, and was the department representative for the company blood bank and the United Way fund drive.

A Pennsylvania man was killed early yesterday when his pickup truck ran off Mount Carmel Road near Hereford, struck a utility pole and overturned, Baltimore County police said. James Robert Eybs, 28, of the 100 block of Hollow Road in Stewartstown was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup east on Mount Carmel just south of Gunpowder Road shortly after midnight when he lost control of the vehicle, which also struck a fence and came to rest in a pasture, police said. Eybs, the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Wife of Anthony Michael D'Alfonso, Sr., mother of Anthony Michael "AJ" D'Alfonso, Jr. and Kelley Ann D'Alfonso, daughter of Ernst T. and Shirley Ann (nee Bray) Carnohan, sister of Lorrie A. Booker and Leslie S. Gee. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mrs. D'Alfonso was employed for 18 years as a postal carrier in Highlandtown, Md. Eli C. Henry Jr., chairman of the business department at the Dulaney High School, was killed Sunday in an automobile accident while on a deer-hunting trip near Coudersport in northern Pennsylvania. Services were being held today at the Stewartstown (Pa.) United Methodist Church.Mr. Henry was 51 and lived in Stewartstown.Besides chairing the business department, he was an assistant football coach and principal of the adult education program at Dulaney.He taught at Dulaney for more than 25 years and briefly before that at Overlea High School.

On Monday, January 26, 2003, ELIZABETH THURMAN BOLTON, 80, of Lutherville, died at her daughter's residence in Stewartstown, PA, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family and loved ones. Mrs. Bolton is survived by three daughters, Linda B. Gardner, Lutherville; Kathi B. Armstrong, Stewartstown, PA; Barbara B. Ricci, Hampstead; and three grandchildren, Annette, Brian, and Timothy. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, February 7th, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Spangler Hall, located on the grounds of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lutherville, followed by an 11 AM Memorial Service at the church.

Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial is in Southern Nevada Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
