Woodlawn, which lost the state 3A indoor track title on the last event on the program to DuVal by just 1.75 points last year, served notice last night in the 3A-4A West Region qualifier that it is fully ready to correct that situation. Taking on nine schools from Montgomery County, which usually has three or four standout teams, plus four of its Baltimore County breathren, the Warriors warmed up by finishing second in the opening 3,200-meter relay, then bolted to a commanding lead by going 2-3-5 in the 300 and 1-3 in the 500 around Clevon Johnson's second-place finish in the mile.

Bullets previewVS. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS* WHEN: Tonight, 10:30.* WHERE: Oakland Coliseum Arena.* TV/RADIO: WTOP-AM 1500.* OUTLOOK: The Bullets (5-11) meet Golden State (11-6) in the second game of their 12-day road trip. Recently, the almost forgotten Mark Alarie and rookie Greg Foster have seen more playing time up front, while A.J. English is getting a look in the backcourt.Golden State continues to hold off Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers for second in the Pacific Division. The Warriors shoot 50 percent from the floor, which is significant given they have precious little that resembles an inside game.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- As P. J. Carlesimo approached the microphone at the end of the Golden State Warriors' holiday party for the homeless, it seemed that the club finally -- after two weeks of intense media scrutiny -- was going to get through a public event without hearing about Latrell Sprewell. But seconds after Carlesimo thanked the more than 500 people in attendance, a chant was starting in the back of the room: "Sprewell, Sprewell." Carlesimo later said he didn't hear it. However, it was a sign that the Warriors' scars are far from healed.

As part of yesterday's deal involving Chris Webber and Tom Gugliotta, the Golden State Warriors will get three first-round picks from the Bullets, in 1996, 1998 and 2000. The scenario is complicated:1996: The Bullets have two first-round picks in 1996, their own and one they received from the Orlando Magic in their trade for Scott Skiles earlier this year. The Bullets keep their own, and Golden State will get that Orlando pick, which was obtained by Orlando from Golden State in the 1993 draft-day trade that sent Webber to Golden State for Anfernee Hardaway.
