Dr. Michael Ain stands 4 feet 3. It's the first thing you notice. There's no way around it. He rolls his green surgical pants around the ankles. He climbs a step-stool to reach the operating table. Even then, his colleagues stand a foot or so above him. He's an orthopedic surgeon, a specialty usually reserved for the jocks of medicine. Ain doesn't exactly fit the stereotype, but he did wrestle in high school, and now he golfs on weekends and fixes bones with big power tools that could tear down walls.

Golf not only has rules of play. Being a social game, it has routines of etiquette. Here are some pointers: Stand aside: No one should move, talk, stand close to, or directly behind, the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. Hold back: Do not hit a shot until players in front are out of range. Yelling "fore" never substitutes for endangering another player with a hit ball. Give way: When looking for a lost ball, allow the group behind you to play through.

A GROUP of Arundel High School dads descended on the Gambrills school's field hockey and lacrosse field early Saturday morning to build a scoring stand to replace the one destroyed by arson in June. By the end of the weekend, construction was complete. A beautiful stand, in Arundel green and white, is ready for the coming season. The raised green platform, surrounded by a white railing, will provide scorers, timers and statisticians with a better view of the field and a convenient place to carry out their duties.

If only people will stay disgusted with baseball, we'll be able to get Os tickets for a change. Now the U.S. is boycotting Iran. We need an enemy before more Americans decide this nation is it. The NRA will stand by its principles. Foremost of these is that a seditious militia seeking heavy weapons is a worthy market.

Lately, the stroll to ward the Ravens game has become more appetizing. The aromas of grilled meats, chicken wings, hot dogs and fries wash over football fans as they stream along Ravenswalk, the concourse that runs between Oriole Park at Cam den Yards and M&T Bank Stadium. This fall, the walkway is lined with stands selling food and drink from six area restaurants. Ten stands open three hours before kickoff of Ravens home games and continue limited service dur ing the games. A 9-foot-by-12-foot television screen set up in the middle of the action shows the Ravens and other NFL games.

The hot dog was 22 degrees hotter than last year. The beer selection was big, and the $4 bottle of Beck's dark was cold, 40 degrees to be exact.Except for a backup at a pizza-dispensing post, the wait in line was shorter, even at Boog Powell's barbecue stand. Tom Matte's ribs were sweet, yet good. The fresh-roasted peanuts were disappointingly lukewarm. That is the summary of my recent eating trip through the concession stands of Oriole Park at Camden Yards operated by ARA food services. I was there Wednesday night as a professional eater.

The meteorologists said a cold front came through Baltimore yesterday. But standing over a smoking 100-gallon drum, DaRon Battle wasn't feeling it. He and his stepbrother, Jake Davis, get the pit-beef grill outside their father's Falls Road store to 170 degrees by 9 a.m. and keep it going all day. They stand in the shade of Shorty's Pit Beef and Country Store and gulp ice water and Gatorade between orders -- most of which they've memorized and shout to...
