Ravens defensive end Ryan McBean broke his left ankle Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome, a league source confirmed. It's a fracture dislocation and it will require surgery, according to the source. McBean is scheduled to visit Dr. Robert Anderson on Monday for further examination. He's regarded as the top doctor of choice for NFL players dealing with foot and ankle injuries.

Timothy Michael Hillman, who had been beer manager at The Wine Source in Hampden and its predecessor for two decades and was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic supporter of Baltimore's craft beer movement and microbreweries, died Sunday of a heart attack at his Timonium home. He was 49. "I've worked with hundreds of people in 22 years, and no one bears greater accolades for our success than Tim Hillman," said David Wells, owner of The Wine Source. "He's our version of Cal Ripken.

A Crofton man who owned a cache of weapons repeatedly threatened to "blow everybody up" at his former workplace and declared himself a "joker," police said, in what authorities believe is a reference to last week's mass killings during a midnight screening of"The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo. Neil Edwin Prescott, 28, was taken into custody at his apartment early Friday and transferred to Anne Arundel Medical Center for an emergency psychiatric evaluation, Prince George's County police said.

The Orioles are trolling for a corner infielder who can get on base, and the Miami Marlins are apparently considering dealing three-time All-Star Hanley Ramirez , who owns a .374 career on-base percentage and switched from shortstop to third base this year. So is there a fit between the clubs with Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline approaching? Well, theoretically, absolutely. Realistically, probably not. ( Note : The Dodgers acquired Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins several hours after this story was posted .)

There are a couple of serious problems with the so-called "green jobs revolution. " The first concerns the serial overpromising of new jobs from politicians of all stripes. And it's easy to understand why the overpromising is so rampant: All of us want to believe alternative sources of energy will free us of our overdependence on foreign (and often hostile) sources of energy. Throw in the possibility of thousands of new technology jobs and you have plenty of eager politicians ready to sell a green jobs platform.

Much has been said about the power outages caused by recent storms, but one thing rarely mentioned is the importance of getting people off the electrical grid. It's a national security issue when so many people are rendered helpless in a neighborhoods because their electrical power all comes from the local utility. The government should continue to offer incentives for households to install solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems of whatever size. It would help if even one or two people on a block had an energy source besides the grid.

Jack and Betty Scrivener of Stoneleigh lost power last August thanks to Hurricane Irene. They lost it again when storms pummeled the region June 30 — and after one very long, very hot week, the elderly couple still hadn't gotten it back. They don't know if they can take another extended outage. "It'll probably drive us into a retirement home, because I'm 85," Jack Scrivener said Friday afternoon as a generator provided just enough juice for three outlets at their Ridgeleigh Road home.

With the non-waiver trade deadline coming at the end of the month, the Orioles are "going hard" after Milwaukee Brewers' Zack Greinke, according to an industry source. The source, an executive with another big-league club, said the Orioles appear to be the most aggressive suitor currently for Greinke, the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner who is a free-agent at the end of the season. Talks are preliminary and certainly the Orioles won't be the only interested party if the Greinke sweepstakes open this month.

NBC News used to be very good at handling major on-air change. The passing of the baton from Tom Brokaw to Brian Williams was textbook for how it should be done. But what NBC News President Steve Capus and his lieutenants are doing to Ann Curry as they let her twist in the wind at "Today"  is brutal. It's been called "death by a thousand leaks," and after the career she's had as a journalist, the 55-year-old Curry deserves better. Capus, you might recall, is the man who said he felt as if Chelsea Clinton had been preparing her whole life for her role as special correspondent at Williams' "Rock Center" newsmagazine.
