Rosie Jones fully understands the hot seat she created for herself. Asked about the thought process that went into finalizing the U.S. Solheim Cup roster she will be taking to Ireland next month, Jones looked up from her lunch with a grin. "You mean my picks?" she said. Well, yeah. Particularly the player with just seven LPGA starts under her belt. From the outset though, Jones has acknowledged the addition of Ryann O'Toole isn't exactly conventional thinking — "a very wild pick," she called it before making the announcement late Sunday.

The scoreboards and scaffolding have come down at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, and the venue has returned to its members and corporate clientele. Yet with the success of the LPGA's inaugural International Crown won by Spain last Sunday, it doesn't seem to be a question of whether the LPGA will return to a club that prides itself on periodically hosting major championships, but when and with what event. "I would like to see us play whatever we and they want to play here," LPGA commissioner Michael Whan said on the final day. I think this course can hold anything on the LPGA schedule.

Spain might have seen its reign as an international soccer power come crashing down in the first two weeks of the World Cup last month in Brazil, but its potential as a major factor in women's golf was in sharp focus the past few days at the LPGA's inaugural International Crown. The Spaniards, who arrived at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills last week with confident games and rather anonymous profiles, left Sunday carrying the glistening silver trophy and wearing the four individual crowns for their victory in the eight-country, 32-player event.

Four LPGA professionals came to Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills on Monday to promote the inaugural International Crown match play competition, which will take place next July. But not all four will necessarily be back next summer for the actual competition. LPGA professionals I.K. Kim (South Korea), Gerina Piller (United States), Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden) and Sarah-Jane Smith (Australia) were among those at Monday's event, a pre-celebration for the competition, the first-of-its-kind biennial, global, team match-play tournament.

Before the McDonald's LPGA Championship had even concluded, officials were ready to call the first tour event at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace a success. "The attendance, the reception we've received from this part of the world and everything that's been associated with the tournament so far has been a home run for us," said LPGA commissioner Ty Votaw. "We're very pleased with the move and as first-year experiences go it's been top notch." After 11 years at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del., the tournament began what, at minimum, will be a five-year run at Bulle Rock.

The LPGA's brand-new International Crown match-play tournament is still a year away, but the preparations have already begun at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills. The event's organizers brought four bright young stars from four participating countries to play the course and meet the local media on Monday. Hopefully, it will be a little less humid when the LPGA assembles eight four-player teams to compete under their national flags in late July of 2014, but the players spoke very highly of the course and the tournament's unique concept.

When the United States Golf Association packed up its corporate tents after the 2002 Senior Open concluded, Caves Valley returned to its roots as a private club that was selective in the tournaments it hosted. Mandated to promote the amateur ranks, the Owings Mills club welcomed a handful of events in the intervening years - none involving professionals. That will change in the summer of 2014, when the Ladies Professional Golf Association's inaugural International Crown comes to Baltimore County for a four-day, match-play event featuring four-player teams from eight different countries.
