Janay Johnson, Catonsville SPORT Basketball GIRLS STATS -- A three-year varsity starter, Johnson, 5 feet 9, averages 10.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a power forward. Over the summer, she played for the Maryland Heat Amateur Athletic Union team and competed at the national tournament in Orlando, Fla. SIDELINES -- The senior has a 3.9 grade point average and plans to become a forensic scientist. A fan of TV's Cold Case Files, Johnson enjoys working with chemicals in chemistry class.

•Cornell coach Ben DeLuca would not comment on the status of injured superstar Rob Pannell after the Big Red's 12-6 win against Syracuse on Tuesday. Pannell had surgery in early March for a broken bone in his foot. The injury typically sidelines athletes for at least six weeks. Pannell was on the sidelines in a walking boot, moving slowly but without a noticeable limp during the game. He was not using the cart he had on the sidelines during ESPNU's broadcast against Virginia in theKonica Minolta Face-Off Classic, and he did not use crutches during the game.

BOYS Kevin Etter, Severn SPORT BASKETBALL STATS -- Etter was named a team captain on the Admirals' basketball team by coach Tank Duckett. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior forward, who also is a talented lacrosse player, is being counted on by Duckett to lead a team that is rebuilding after going 12-8 last season and making the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs. SIDELINES -- A standout defenseman who will play his third varsity season for Severn's lacrosse team this spring, Etter signed with Penn State.
