The National Weather Service is calling for showers and thunderstorms in the Baltimore area Monday, with a high near 73 and southwest winds 9 to 11 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. A small craft advisory is in effect Monday for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay and the lower tidal Potomac River. Forecasters warn that Monday's thunderstorms may produce strong and potentially damaging wind gusts. Monday night is expected to start out mostly cloudy and then become mostly clear, with a low around 50 and northwest winds 10 to 13 miles per hour.

There is a chance for stormy weather this afternoon and evening as we enter a damp and dreary stretch to end the month. Central and western Maryland are included in an area that could see some strong winds and thunderstorms today as a cold front moves across warm, moist air over the Interstate 95 corridor, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The center gives us about a 15 percent chance of severe, damaging winds. Rainfall isn't expected to be heavy, with about a quarter of an inch in the forecast of the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington office.

While Anne Harrington was mourning the loss of close friend Lee Griffin 10 years ago, she asked herself whether there was a way to create a living legacy to honor him. She quickly found her answer: Box of Rain. Box of Rain is an organization that mentors disadvantaged children ages 9-14 through maritime activity. Harrington, along with others, founded the organization in 2003 and named it after Griffin's boat, which he named after a Grateful Dead song. But despite the weather the name might suggest, Box of Rain children thrived under the resplendent sun as they paddled into the shore of Spa Creek on a surprisingly mild June morning.

The National Weather Service is calling for Monday to be cloudy in the Baltimore area, with a slight chance of showers, a high near 75 and south winds between 7 and 9 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 20 percent. A coastal flood advisory is in effect Monday morning for locations along the western shore of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay from Anne Arundel County northward and for Washington, D.C., along the tidal Potomac River. A small craft advisory is in effect Monday night for the Maryland Chesapeake Bay south of Pooles Island and the lower tidal Potomac River from Cobb Island to Smith Point.

The National Weather Service is calling for Tuesday to be increasingly cloudy, with a high near 91 and southwest winds between 7 and 10 miles per hour. There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. The weather service warns that a few of these storms may be capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. A small craft advisory is in effect Tuesday afternoon and evening for the Maryland Chesapeake Bay and the lower tidal Potomac River. Tuesday night is expected to be rainy, with a low around 74 and west winds between 5 and 8 miles per hour.
