Taneytown police are searching for a man and a male juvenile in the investigation of a series of burglaries after the arrest of a 19-year-old man Saturday night.Lawrence Richard Horner of the 200 block of Roth Ave. initially was arrested on a charge of assault and battery after a youth had his nose broken Saturday.Mr. Horner later was charged with five counts of burglary and theft, four counts of malicious destruction of property and one count each of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Fire* Westminster: Firefighters from Westminster and Reese responded to an automatic fire alarm in the 400 block of Hahn Road at 10:02 a.m. and again at 3:48 p.m. yesterday. Crews were out for one minute in the morning and 18 minutes in the afternoon.* Westminster: Westminster crews cleaned up after an accident at the corner of Main and Center streets at 11:13 a.m. Tuesday. They were out for 20 minutes.* Reese: Reese responded to an alarm in the 2700 block of Wildorin Drive at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday.

POLICE* Westminster: An official of the Carroll County permits and inspections agency told city police Thursday that the passenger window of a county vehicle was smashed while it was parked in the 100 block of N. Court St. The damage was estimated at $200.An East Main Street resident told city police Wednesday that property was taken from his vehicle while it was parked in front of his home. The extent of the loss was unknown.A Sheetz employee told city police Wednesday that someone pumped $14 worth of gasoline at the convenience store/station and left without paying.

Taneytown police have arrested two teen-agers after a series of break-ins in the city between Feb. 23 and Saturday.City Police Chief Mel Diggs said Nolan Buck Hawkins, 18, of the 1000 block of Circle Drive, Detour, was charged with burglary, theft, malicious destruction of property and conspiracy. His bond, initially set at $50,000, was reduced to $2,500 at a bail review hearing Tuesday. He was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center yesterday evening.Officers said juvenile petitions have been filed against a 17-year-old and he was released to his parents.

The city of Taneytown and police are co-sponsoring a bicycle rodeo from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Taneytown Memorial Park.Children ages 8 to 16 are invited. The rodeo will include an obstacle course, bike safety check, raffles, bike identification engraving, photo identifications, food and prizes.The rodeo is free. ...(TC A man whose car struck two joggers, killing one, after he apparently fell asleep at the wheel was charged yesterday with two traffic violations, authorities said.The charges of failure to exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian and negligent driving, which come under state transportation laws, are payable offenses if the driver chooses not to stand trial, according to police.Negligent driving carries a $105 penalty and the other charge carries a $40 penalty.Officers, who conferred with the state attorney's office before filing the charges, said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use in the accident they caused the death of Terence Burk and the critical injury of David Herlocker on Aug. 10.Police said Robert D. Andrews, 19, an employee of Sheetz in Westminster, had worked from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9, and volunteered to work at the Gettysburg store from 10 p.m to 6 a.m. Aug 10. Police said he was returning to his home when his 1990 Chevrolet ran off Route 97 at Kalten Road.

Police eye rape suspect for tie to earlier assaults Baltimore County police were trying to determine whether a Baltimore man charged in the recent rape of a Towson University student has assaulted other victims, officials said yesterday. Citing the violent nature of the Oct. 6 rape of a 21-year-old woman near Towson University, police said they believe Ian Alexander Murphy, 24, may have sexually assaulted victims who have not come forward. Murphy may have been in the Towson area for several weeks before the attack, said police, who did not give further details on the investigation.

A 59-year-old worker on a trash removal truck was killed when he tripped and fell under the rear dual wheels of the vehicle about noon yesterday at the Northern Landfill.John Frederick Clinton Sr. of the 3100 block of Hoopers Delight Road,New Windsor, was pronounced dead at Carroll County General Hospital shortly after the accident. State police said he was an employee of the Hughes Trash Removal Co. of Hampstead.Investigators said Mr. Clinton had gotten out of the truck to guide the driver into position to unload the vehicle when he apparently slipped on some debris and fell forward under the wheels of the truck, which was moving backward.

POLICE* Westminster: An employee of the Sheetz gas station and convenience store on East Main Street told city police that someone stole five cases of motor oil Friday. The loss was estimated at $59.40.A Pennsylvania Avenue resident reported that someone broke the glass of the rear storm door of his home Thursday. The damage was estimated at $50.A Manchester Road resident reported to state police that someone entered his truck while it was at the Bare Truck Center on Route 140 over the weekend and stole a citizens band radio, a scanner and a mobile telephone.

The Downes Road bridge over Interstate 83 in Parkton will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8 a.m. on June 20 so work can begin to replace the concrete bridge deck. The State Highway Administration hired Sheetz Construction of Linthicum for the $1.3 million project. The bridge was built in 1958 and is structurally safe, but has deteriorated. Additional work includes cleaning and painting steel beams, minor repairs to concrete abutments, and replacing concrete wing walls.
