NEW ORLEANS -- The old lion is about to stalk into the football jungle one last time Sunday night before retracting his claws for good. And the young lion is eager to pounce on the throne that retiring Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis has owned for 17 years. San Francisco 49ers star inside linebacker Patrick Willis has a deep respect for Lewis, his longtime friend and mentor, but he can't wait to become the new Lion King. Ever since Willis forged a relationship with Lewis, built through their mutual friendship with former 49ers coach and Ravens linebackers coach Mike Singletary, the 28-year-old six-time Pro Bowl selection has referred to Lewis as Mufasa, as in the Lion King.

An old Victorian home, built of granite and dating to 1896, sits on the corner of two wide, tree-lined streets in Havre de Grace, welcoming visitors from near and far. Carol Nemeth, has been running her "Victorian Lady" as a full-time bed-and-breakfast since 1994, seven years after she and her then-husband, Jim, purchased it in 1987. The intention was never to turn it into a B&B, but rather to take a neglected property and bring it back to its original condition. The Nemeths had restored one home in town, but they wanted to try their hands at a larger place.

It is doubtful in all of the hullabaloo and hype leading up to Super Bowl XLVII that the name of one non-football-playing Baltimorean will be mentioned: John McDonogh, the philanthropist, who left an indelible mark not only on his native city but also in New Orleans for his endowment of public schools for poor children. A reader, Bill Rowe, who graduated from McDonogh School in 1970, recently brought to my attention McDonogh's philanthropic endeavors, which probably outside of the McDonogh community have largely been forgotten.

At 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, when the Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, much of Baltimore will be watching, either from their stadium seats in New Orleans or here at home. Ravens fans not lucky enough to have tickets to the big game still have plenty of reason to celebrate at home in Baltimore, and they can do so in N'awlins style. According to local chefs with Louisiana roots, the Big Easy's cuisine is tailor-made for parties.

Shares of men's retailer Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. fell nearly $7 per share on Monday after the Hampstead company said its profit for the current fiscal year will be down 20 percent. The stock ended Nasdaq trading at $39.28 a share, down 15 percent. Bank's 2012 fiscal year ends Feb. 2. Final results will depend on sales and expenses for the rest of the fiscal year, the company said. The company reported income of $97.5 million in its fiscal 2011. Sales for the year will be up, but not enough to offset higher marketing expenses and a lower gross margin, said CEO and President R. Neal Black in a statement.

Of the 53 players on the Ravens' active roster, only four have been to a Super Bowl. And only one was there last year. James Ihedigbo was a starting safety for New England, and as the Ravens spent last week gearing up for meeting the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3, the memory of that 21-17 Patriots loss to the New York Giants almost a year ago was still fresh in his mind. "You don't ever want to be on the other end of it, the loser's end," he said. "Coming into this whole week, it's preparation, it's understanding the type of offense the 49ers run, the things they do on special teams, how they want to attack us, and how do we want to attack them.

During his 17-year managerial career with the Orioles, Earl Weaver crafted 1,480 winning batting orders. Arguably none was as impressive as the lineup that honored him Saturday. A star-studded collection of players, team representatives, and baseball dignitaries joined Weaver's family and friends during a stirring 90-minute memorial service. A week after Weaver, 82, passed away on a baseball-themed cruise, he received a tribute that encapsulated him not just as a feisty Hall of Fame manager, but a loyal friend and family patriarch.

For this youth football team, "Play like a Raven" isn't just an idle slogan. They are the Ravens - the Hampstead Ravens, that is. "Everyone wants to be us," player Larry Smith, 12, says of his opponents. For one thing, the Hampstead Ravens are winners: The team of 10- to 12-year-olds snagged the Maryland Youth Football championship for the second season in a row. And for another, since 1996 they have shared the name and logo of the Baltimore Ravens, who are on their way to Super Bowl XLVII.
