An 11-year-old Westminster boy told police he was befriended by a man who led him into a woods and sexually assaulted him Wednesday afternoon.The boy was able to escape afterward and run to a nearby gasoline station on George Street, where city police were called. When the officers returned to the spot in the woods where the attack occurred, they determined it was outside the city limits and turned the case over to state police.The assault is being investigated by the child abuse section of the state's attorney's office.

Slain teen wasn't sexually assaultedAn Old Mill High School student who was found stabbed to death in the woods near her home was not sexually assaulted during the attack, county police said yesterday.Test results show that Lisa Kathleen Haenel, 14, of the 300 block of Highland Drive, was not raped when she was killed on her way to school last Friday morning, police said.Lisa's body was found at 9 a.m. by her mother's boyfriend as he searched the wooded path that runs between Shetlands Lane and an apartment complex to the school.

Baltimore County police are seeking a man who allegedly broke into an apartment and sexually assaulted a woman while she was sleeping yesterday morning. According to authorities, the suspect entered the apartment in the 1000 block of Donington Circle in Towson around 8:15 a.m. and sexually assaulted the woman in her bedroom. The woman was able to free herself and run from the apartment. She was later treated and released from the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, police said. Police described the man as white, about 30 years old, with a medium build and medium-length, brown hair.

A part-time staff aide who worked with the varsity basketball team at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School has been charged with twice sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy after offering him a ride home, Baltimore police reported.Police said the boy does not attend Dunbar, but that one of the alleged attacks took place at the school in East Baltimore.Edward "Zeke" Mazyck, 28, of the 1500 block of E. 33rd St. was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of sodomy, kidnapping, perverted sex practice and battery, said Doug Price, a city police spokesman.

A 30-year-old Middle River man has been arrested and charged with child abuse and related sex offenses after being accused of sexually assaulting two girls he knew, Baltimore County police said yesterday. David Christopher Cross of the 100 block of Daycoach Circle is accused of abusing a 9-year-old girl in the summer and abusing her sister for four years beginning in 1998 when she was 6 years old, court records show. Cross, who is being held without bail at the county detention center, came under the scrutiny of investigators last month after a man he was chatting with on the Internet called police, saying their exchange had turned sexual and that he feared for the safety of children, court records show.

A former Dundalk high school teacher who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl he met on the Internet on New Year's Day was sentenced yesterday to four years in prison for a crime a Howard County judge called "every suburban parent's worst nightmare." Charles Levi Maxwell received a 20-year sentence, with all but four years suspended, and five years' probation for attempted rape and sexual offense convictions from Howard Circuit Judge Dennis M. Sweeney. Maxwell, an admitted sex addict, was living in Timonium at the time of the assault but now owns a home in Harrisburg, Pa. After his release from prison, Maxwell, 34, will have to register as a sexually violent offender and pay $875 toward his victim's counseling.

The Baltimore school system has dropped its appeal in a lawsuit alleging that a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in math class five years ago, and it will pay the girl and her mother a $100,000 judgment ordered by a lower court. The system's action came after a Sun article Sunday detailed the family's plight. The girl, now 17, has been hospitalized in psychiatric facilities 21 times since the incident on Nov. 27, 2002, and she is now living in a residential facility for vulnerable adolescents.

A 16-year-old Damascus girl was sexually assaulted in her aunt's home in Columbia's Oakland Mills village early Monday, but the teen broke away and fled before being harmed further, Howard County police said.Robert Lee Jenkins, 42, of no fixed address, has been charged with second- and fourth-degree sex offenses. He was being held yesterday on $100,000 bond at the Howard County Detention Center, a District Court commissioner said.The girl was examined at Howard County General Hospital and released, police said.

Three young boys have been arrested and police are searching for a fourth, after a group of youths forced its way into a house off South Center Street in Westminster and sexually assaulted one of two girls there Saturday.Police said the two girls reported that they were entering the house when four juveniles pushed them inside and forced their way into the house.Investigators said that when the girl who lived there threatened to call police, one of two 12-year-old boys grabbed a knife from the kitchen.
