Anne Arundel County prosecutors decided yesterday to pursue a murder charge for a third time against Richard E. Janey, 34, after a Circuit Court jury failed to reach a verdict Monday on a second-degree murder charge.Janey, who lives in the 100 block of Obery Court in Annapolis, is accused of the December 1994 killing of Susan McAteer, 29, of the first block of Southgate Ave. in Annapolis.Despite the hung jury on the charge of second-degree murder, Janey was convicted on charges of malicious burning of a car, conspiracy to burn the car and being an accessory after the fact to murder.

A 20-year-old man has been charged in the death of his infant son, police confirmed Wednesday. Police have accused Dion Ware of lying about the circumstances surrounding the death Monday of Kearri Dion Ware, who was born in October. Ware, of the 300 block of E. 22nd St., first told detectives that the boy was asleep and making strange noises, and that he realized he was not breathing and performed CPR before calling 911, according to charging documents. A doctor at Johns Hopkins Children's Center told detectives, however, that there were signs of bruising on the boy, as well as fractured ribs, the records show.

A 39-year-old stockbroker was sentenced yesterday in Anne Arundel Circuit Court to 25 years for the slaying of his girlfriend in her Glen Burnie apartment.Thomas General Jr. of the 1600 block of N. Capitol St. in Washington was sentenced by Judge Bruce C. Williams after being convicted by a jury May 30 of second-degree murder.Mary Gadson, 34, was beaten with a hammer and stabbed two dozen times in her apartment in the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court on June 5, 1994.Before sentencing General, Judge Williams considered reports from his supporters, who said he had no previous criminal record and was a good father and role model.

Timothy Cumberland didn't fire the fatal blast, own the murder weapon or drive the getaway car. But a Carroll Circuit Court jury yesterday found him guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Gregory Lamont Howard in January of 1993.The verdict, which came after more than 12 hours of deliberation over two days, surprised Cumberland's defense attorney.Cumberland's co-defendants -- trigger man Samuel Allen Miller and Daniel Justin Leonard, who owned the gun and the car -- both pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in September.

A Middle River man pleaded guilty Monday in the stabbing death of his girlfriend last year, Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott D. Shellenberger said. Sam Davis, 61, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to first-degree murder in the death of Jacqueline Denise Paul. Prosecutors said Davis stabbed Paul, who was 35, in the chest last April as she lay in bed at the home they shared at 355 Grovethorn Road. Davis left the home and called others to say he had hurt Paul, prosecutors said.

An Annapolis teenager charged as an adult in the death of a 2-year-old girl last year pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman from the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's office. Timothy Darnell Height, 18, received a 30-year sentence with all but 15 years suspended, followed by five years probation in the death of Amoir Faith Turner, said Kristin Fleckenstein, the spokeswoman. Officers found the toddler dead in her bed in the Bywater neighborhood of Annapolis shortly after 7 a.m. on June 5, 2010.

A Carroll circuit judge has refused to shorten the 30-year state prison sentence being served by a Reisterstown man convicted in the January 1993 shooting death of a Westminster man.Judge Francis M. Arnold told Samuel Allen Miller on Monday that he was far luckier than the victim, Gregory Lamont Howard, a bystander who died from a shotgun blast to the heart after a soured drug deal on South Center Street.The judge called the death a tragedy. He said, however, that he would recommend Miller's transfer from the Eastern Correctional Institute on the Eastern Shore to the Patuxent Institution in Jessup, where Miller can participate in educational and vocational programs.

A West Baltimore teen-ager has been convicted of the murders of two men, who were killed in December 1999 after an angry exchange of words led to deadly gunfire. Louis Pierre Easter, 16, of the 2000 block of Braddish Ave. was convicted Friday by a Circuit Court jury of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Judge Kaye Allison set sentencing for June 16, Joyce Jefferson Daniels, a spokeswoman for the city state's attorney's office, said yesterday.

An Annapolis woman was charged Thursday with murdering her two-year-old daughter, and the city's police also said she disposed of the body. Chelsea Booth, 25, of the first block of Bens Drive, is facing charges of first- and second-degree murder, and child abuse, according to court records. She was held without bond at the Anne Arundel County jail. Police said a "concerned citizen" reported Wednesday not having seen Kassidey Booth in recent days. They said an investigation indicated that the mother killed Kassidey earlier this week and disposed of her body.

A 29-year-old Baltimore man was convicted of second-degree murder for stabbing another man to death at a Walbrook High School reunion nearly two years ago, the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office announced Monday. A city jury found James L. Dixon, of the 900 block of Kevin Road, guilty on Wednesday. It was his second trial on murder charges in the death of 23-year-old Carrington McNutt, who was stabbed in the neck and torso at the Patapsco Arena, where the reunion - attended by by roughly 900 people from the 1995 through 2005 graduating classes - was held. Dixon's first trial ended with a hung jury in November 2011.
