SEATTLE -- It's been dubbed the perpetual-foreigner syndrome -- an impression by Asian-Americans that as a group, they're constantly regarded as non-Americans, as outsiders. Taiwanese-American Wen Ho Lee, for example, was targeted by the U.S. government and suspected of espionage because of his ethnicity, according to many in the Asian/Pacific Islander community. In May, U.S. Rep. David Wu, an Oregon Democrat, was detained entering the Department of Energy building in Washington, D.C., and repeatedly asked if he was an American citizen.

SEATTLE -- What's white, as big as three elephants, worthy of a mention in the New York Times and blamed for the cancellation of the Seattle Center New Year's Eve party?The Propane Services truck stolen from a company in nearby Spanaway Nov. 29.Ever since thieves drove off with the fully loaded propane truck, urban legends about its disappearance have been as plentiful as peanuts.Police suspect that the truck, which carried 2,210 gallons of propane when it was stolen, is parked on someone's property and that the fuel is being used for home heating, said Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County sheriff's department.

SEATTLE - Getty Images Inc., the largest provider of stock photographs and images to media companies, has signed an exclusive agreement to make photography from National Geographic magazine accessible through its Internet site. Financial terms weren't disclosed. The Seattle company will begin offering the National Geographic Image Collection, best known for photographs of travel, wildlife, adventure and scientific imagery, on its www.gettyone.com in the third quarter. Getty, whose biggest rival is Corbis Corp.

SEATTLE -- A fourth-quarter rally by the Washington Bullets, including 16 straight points at one stretch, made the Seattle SuperSonics nervous, but could not prevent the Sonics from scoring a 112-102 victory last night before 13,585 at the Seattle Center Coliseum.Shawn Kemp led Seattle with 25 points and eight rebounds. The Bullets got 22 points and five rebounds from Larry Stewart.After trailing by 19 early in the final quarter, the Bullets closed to 107-102 with 2:07 left. But the Bullets could get no closer.
