Navy Machinist Mate Robert E. Thompson has been deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Storm while serving aboard theguided missile destroyer USS Preble, based in Norfolk, Va.Thompson is a 1987 graduate of Havre de Grace High School and theson of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Thompson of Havre de Grace.He and hiswife, Stephanie, reside in Norfolk.NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT FINISHES BASIC TRAININGNavy Seaman Recruit Jason C. Town praised for trash complianceTaneytown City Manager Joseph A. Mangini Jr. said 96 percent of the city's residents have complied with the trash ordinance that officials have recently begun to enforce.The ordinance requires that trash placed on curbs for disposal must be in metal or plastic containers."I went through every street in town Thursday morning and I was impressed," Mr. Mangini said. "Only 50 out of the 1,373 units under contract to Haden Trash Removal were not in compliance with the law."
