Fallston's girls' lacrosse team aced a two-part midterm exam last week with victories over previously undefeated John Carroll and Joppatowne. Those wins boosted the Cougars' record to 7-0, and gave them a leg up on the final exam -- winning the county title and earning one of the top two spots for the state playoffs.Friday's 13-8 win at Joppatowne (5-1) could be the game that endsup deciding the county championship. All this is familiar to both teams --Fallston went undefeated last year to win the county title while the Mariners finished second.

Major strides were made by the Western Maryland College women's lacrosse team last spring, more than enough to believe the Green Terror is just a few short steps from taking the program to the next level. It was a young Green Terror team that went 12-2 overall last season and 8-2 in finishing tied for second in the Centennial Conference. Most impressive was its ability to win the close games, as it went 5-1 in games decided by one or two goals. With 10 of its 12 starters returning, coach Kim Easterday hopes the best is yet to come.
