Major League Lacrosse is planning on starting the 2015 season earlier than in the past, with April 11 as the proposed start date, two weeks earlier than the 2014 season began. The final regular-season game in the National Lacrosse League is set for May 2, meaning there will be more overlap between MLL and NLL seasons if MLL starts earlier. The MLL also is experimenting with ways to make the ball more visible on TV, including changing the color or adding a stripe, after trying a smooth, orange ball last season.

Third-ranked Gilman got a scare yesterday, but pulled out an 18-16 win against unranked St. Mary's in a Maryland Scholastic Association Armstrong A Conference football game at Anne Arundel Community College. The Greyhounds (4-0, 1-0), who had outscored opponents 94-0 going into yesterday, scored with just 1:27 left to play after an eight-play drive.Using its strong inside running game, Gilman took the ball to the Saints' 16 after a 12-yard run by fullback R. C. Kauffman and a 6-yard pass from quarterback Mark Cornes to James McIntyre.

The way things continue to unfold for the Baltimore Bandits, they may have to content themselves with making games close for a while in their first go-around in the American Hockey League. The Bandits again came out second best in third-period play and fell to the Providence Bruins, 4-3, last night before 2,314 at the Baltimore Arena.Frustration probably doesn't cover the way the Bandits' cast is feeling after winning just once in nine outings."I've never been a minus player in my life," said team captain Alex Hicks, "and I'm probably minus 10 at this point."
