Marie Rosenblatt, 97, who once played a piano concert for the Russian royal family at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, now the Hermitage museum in Leningrad, died Sunday at the Jewish Convalescent and Nursing Home after a heart attack.Graveside services were being held today at the South Hill Hebrew Cemetery in York, Pa.The former Marie Kagan was a native of Leningrad. Her father owned a jewelry store that was patronized by members of the court.She gave the piano concert as a member of the honors class of her school.

This is a classic fish tale that keeps growing bigger.Leon Weinstein operates the Globe Fish Co. in Boston, one of the largest seafood wholesalers in the area. But Weinstein could not live on fish alone.Growing up in Swampscott, Mass., he became an avid boxing fan, following the ring fortunes of state-bred champions Rocky Marciano, Tony DeMarco and Paul Pender. Weinstein, 45, dreamed of one day owning a piece of a fighter good enough to wear a title belt.A fellow named Joe Lake worked for him in the fish market during the day and moonlighted as a boxing trainer.

Rosenblatt died in a car accident, family and friends at Kneseth Israel Synagogue in Annapolis have sought a fitting memorial for the man who led their congregation for nearly half a century.A week from Sunday, they will immortalizethe rabbi's memory with a vibrant stained-glass window.The window's theme, "L'dor Vador," means "From generation to generation" in Hebrew, a fitting description of Rosenblatt's work in the county."We chose a window because the synagogue was so close to his heart," says his wife, Esther.

A steady stream of police officers, family, friends and others gathered in Northeast Baltimore yesterday to remember a slain Baltimore City police officer. One after another, men and women - many who worked the streets of Baltimore as law enforcement officers with Adam Vazquez - emerged from the viewing at Ruck Funeral Home fighting to hold back tears. "I'm very sad, like the rest of the people here today," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Leonard D. Hamm. "But we're also hopeful that we will band together and help the family get through this."
