Baltimore County police are searching for a woman they say tried to kill two men at a Rosedale pool hall, authorities said yesterday. Monnek Hall, 24, of the 1400 block of E. Federal St. in Baltimore was involved in an argument between two men inside Hot Shots Billiards in the 8100 block of Pulaski Highway on March 3, according to police. She is accused of cutting the men with some type of sharp object, authorities said. Police have obtained a warrant for Hall on attempted-murder charges.

Anthony Joseph Kelly, a former English teacher who established a Rosedale used-car dealership, died in his sleep Sunday of an apparent heart attack. He was 57 and lived in the Hampton section of Towson. Mr. Kelly sold converted vans - vehicles with interior carpeting, captain's chairs, televisions and videocassette recorders - at his Tony Kelly & Family Used Cars on Pulaski Highway in Rosedale. He also sold Corvettes, sport utility vehicles and trucks on his 40-car lot. "He was the best salesman I ever knew," said Lloyd Calvert, general manager of the dealership.

Baltimore County fire investigators sought witnesses yesterday to a fire that killed two children who apparently were left alone Thursday in their Rosedale home.And police and prosecutors said they would consider filing criminal charges against the children's mother, who police said was at a doctor's appointment when the fire began.The mother, Jennifer Grant, remained under psychiatric care at Franklin Square Hospital yesterday, said Sgt. Stephen R. Doarnberger, a Baltimore County police spokesman.

A Rosedale woman went on trial yesterday as one of two accused killers in the stabbing deaths of an elderly Rosedale couple killed in November after returning to their home from a Thanksgiving meal.Jeanne Sue Cascio, 40, of the 6700 block of Havenoak Road, faces two counts of first-degree murder stemming from the Nov. 26, 1998, deaths of Joseph Ohler, 81, and his wife Bernice Ohler, 82.Cascio's boyfriend, Lawrence Michael Borchardt Sr., of the Havenoak Road address, also is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

A Baltimore County Circuit Court jury took an hour yesterday to convict a New York man of felony murder in the execution-style shooting of a Rosedale drug dealer on Dec. 23, 1991.Presentaci Cartajena, a 21-year-old Puerto Rican native who moved to Brooklyn several years ago, is to be sentenced Aug. 3 by Judge J. Norris Byrnes. The maximum sentence for felony murder is life in prison.The jury found Cartajena not guilty of first-degree premeditated murder in the death of 28-year-old Robert "Trini" Collins.

A Baltimore Circuit Court jury found a Rosedale man guilty yesterday of second-degree murder in the killing of a popular basketball coach during what police described as an unprovoked attack in Canton in 2005. Alvin Augustus Williams, 26, was convicted of killing Brian O'Neil Jones and could face up to 60 years in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 26. The verdict, announced after about two hours of deliberation, brought a measure of relief to the Jones family, though they questioned why Williams was not convicted of the first-degree charge prosecutors sought.

CLARIFICATION An article in some editions of yesterday's Sun should have made clear that Cockeysville Middle School parent Barbara Franke opposes her school's temporary shared-building arrangement with the Rosedale Center, an alternative school in Baltimore County. Her statement, "I'm glad they did this," refers to the middle school's release of more specific information about the behavioral problems that led to student placements in Rosedale. Cockeysville Middle School officials sent a fact sheet about the Rosedale Center program home to the parents of each of the school's 800-plus students yesterday, providing for the first time details about the behavioral problems that landed middle and high schoolers in Rosedale's alternative program.

About 600 people turned out yesterday for the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Company's annual Mother's Day dinner.The all-you-can-eat chicken dinner drew families from throughout the community for an inexpensive meal and the chance to catch up with neighbors. Jack Mazza, president of the fire company, said the event is a 20-year-old tradition in Rosedale."Some people like to come here instead of going out to eat because this is more of a home-style, old-time family thing," Mazza said. A Dundalk man died yesterday morning after a freight train hit the idled car he was in, county police said. Richard Allen Ward, 42, died after a CSX train hit his car on Contractors Road near Pulaski Highway in Rosedale, police said. The engineer sounded the horn and attempted to brake before the impact, said Cpl. Mike Hill, a spokesman for the Baltimore County police department. The engineer told police that it appeared that the man was sleeping or unconscious, Hill said.
