Who says Martin O'Malley, who's been in Asia burnishing his foreign-policy credentials and all around the U.S. as head of the Democratic Governors Association, has lost interest in all that needs doing here in Maryland? The governor will be hard at work in Baltimore June 18, leading his Celtic rock band in a performance for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. O'Malley's March will play for the group at Fort McHenry, during what is billed as a "Star Spangled Night. " Plans for the gig were first reported by The Washington Post , darn it all. "On this special night you will dine on the hallowed grounds of this National Monument and Historic Shrine by rare and special arrangement," says the agenda for the conference.

The recording industry may be struggling, but with a number of popular rock-concert-inspired games dominating Christmas wish lists this year, it seems there's no shortage of wannabe pop stars. While guitar and singing simulators of varying quality can be found everywhere, from Wal-Mart to RadioShack, two titles for the major video game systems, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Rock Band, are considered the best of the bunch. BOB BOGLE, 75 Lead guitarist for the Ventures Bob Bogle, lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock band the Ventures, known for 1960s instrumental hits including "Walk, Don't Run," died Sunday in Tacoma, Wash. The cause of death was not disclosed. The band sold millions of albums and heavily influenced other rock guitarists. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. The hall's Web site hailed the Ventures as "the most successful instrumental combo in rock and roll history."
