The Cordish Co., a Baltimore-based development firm, is among the defendants in two lawsuits stemming from alleged underage drinking at an entertainment venue in Rochester, N.Y., that is managed by company representatives. As the 1976 baseball season began, it was not entirely apparent where the Orioles were headed as a franchise. Few remnants remained from their 1969-1971 juggernaut. Frank Robinson, Boog Powell and Dave McNally had departed. Mike Cuellar no longer had his best stuff. Brooks Robinson was on his last legs. Only Jim Palmer still chugged along. The Orioles had reloaded enough to remain a winner, but they stood a tier below the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics - a threat for sure but no longer the odds-on favorite.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Hasim Rahman grew up in Baltimore and lives in Las Vegas. So why did he prepare for Saturday's defense of his World Boxing Council heavyweight title in this New York city? Simply put, he likes Rochester, and it likes him. Local businessman Neal Bauman often tells the story of a scene in a restaurant nearly two years ago when Rahman trumped another local hero - Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. "Donovan went to Syracuse, so he's pretty popular when he comes to town.

When people here want to impress out-of-towners, they take them to the headquarters of Eastman Kodak Co., the pioneering photography giant, to one of the lush vineyards along the Finger Lakes or west to the famed Niagara Falls. Or they head over to the local grocery. Wegmans Food Markets Inc., with stores three times the size of the average supermarket, chefs in high hats, European-style cafM-is, 700 varieties of produce and French patisseries with fruit tarts and mini creme brulees, is a popular, albeit unusual, attraction in Rochester.

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. - What they wanted was a tuneup. What they got was a wakeup call. A loud one. But for the Bayhawks, last night's 21-19 loss to the Rochester Rattlers may be just what they needed to get ready for this week's Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend. "It's a good lesson," said Bayhawks player-coach Gary Gait, "that we have to be prepared and focused for a full 60 minutes." The Bayhawks (10-2), seeded second, will meet the No. 3 Rattlers (6-6) again Friday, in a semifinal at Nickerson Field in Boston.
