The Blast roster is a melting pot - there are slightly more first- and second-year players than veterans, and more are from Brazil than the Baltimore area. All the mixing and matching - eight players on the 18-man roster come from another country, and 10 have played for the team two years or less - may have been cause for concern at the start of the Major Indoor Soccer League season. But almost midway through the 26-game schedule, the Blast has already had a nine-game winning streak - to start the year - and finds itself atop the standings with a 10-2 record.

The Blast defense and goalie William Vanzela made life very tough for the Rochester Lancers on Saturday. Rochester discovered why the Blast came into the matchup as the Major Indoor Soccer League's top defense. Vanzela made 12 saves, and the defense smothered the Lancers offense as the Blast scored a 17-2 victory over Rochester before an announced 6,986 at Baltimore Arena. This victory kept the Blast (10-3) a half game behind the first-place Milwaukee Wave (10-2), which beat the St. Louis Ambush on Saturday.

The Blast is looking to build on last weekend's impressive 12-0 shutout against the Rochester Lancers and should be able to repat that against the Roar, an expansion team, which has scored 26 points and allowed points in its first five games in the league.
