Robert Johnson left 29 songs and little else, but it was enough. Johnson, who died in 1938, has long since become the most famous blues singer of all time, reaching a level in the pantheon of American music occupied by figures like Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. The myths inevitably grew up around him. Most writers who have dealt with him have found it impossible to resist the story of his deal with the devil, or the image of him pursued by "hellhounds." But as Johnson's popularity has grown - the box set of his Complete Recordings (Columbia/Legacy)

Despite not making the playoffs this season, the Orioles can say they got the best of the American League East champion Boston Red Sox. The Orioles' 6-5 comeback win over Boston clinched a season-series win over the Red Sox, 10-8, making them the only AL East team to have a winning record against Boston this season. They also clinched their first back-to-back season-series wins over the Red Sox since the 1991-1992 seasons. The Red Sox will still have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, while the Orioles still will empty their lockers after Sunday afternoon's regular-season finale and part ways for the offseason.

Listen to the first version of Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues," and you can imagine him sitting in the makeshift recording studio, slapping his guitar in disgust and asking the engineer to give him another chance. He does not sound like the brilliant performer once rumored to have sold his soul to the Devil. He sounds nervous, unsure, his voice unsteady. There is none of the drive and confidence the great bluesman brought to the second version.Until now, only a handful of people had ever heard the first take of this recording.

So when Jackie went into the delivery room Monday to give birth to their first child, 7-pound, 12-ounce Rebecca Marie, Robert was present in exactly the same electronic fashion. The weekend before his wife was due - her delivery was induced - Robert e-mailed pictures of himself playing birth coach, holding signs that read "Push Jackie Push," "Doing Good Jackie" and "Good Job Jackie."
