A bandit attacked a convenience store clerk with a golf club and stole an undisclosed amount of money early Saturday, county police said.The clerk at the Dash In store in the 7800 block of Quarterfield Road told police that a man walked in about 4:30 a.m. and demanded money. When the clerk did not respond quickly enough, the robber hit him on the arm, police said. The robber then went around the counter, took the money and ran, police said.Police searched the area but could not find the robber.

The Farmers and Mechanics Bank in the 6600 block of Middleburg Road in Keymar was robbed Tuesday of an undisclosed amount of money, Maryland State Police said. An unidentified male entered the bank about 11 a.m., wearing dark sunglasses and a scarf over the lower part of his face, police said. The robber pointed a black revolver at the two tellers on duty, demanding that they hand over money, police said. The tellers complied. After making the tellers lie on the floor, the robber fled, police said.

A man with a sawed-off shotgun whom police suspect of robbing at least six people at ATMs in West Baltimore was shot and wounded yesterday when he picked the wrong victim -- an off-duty city police officer.Officer Neyland Vaughn Jr., 24, of the Central District was making a cash withdrawal about 1:45 a.m. at a Signet Bank ATM in the 1900 block of Bloomingdale Road when a gunman approached, police said.The robber pointed a shotgun at the officer -- who was in street clothes -- and demanded the $60 he had just withdrawn, police said.

An armed man pointed his gun through an Elkridge motel check-in window and robbed the business of cash Monday night, Howard County police said.The robber -- bent on not letting a glass barrier constructed to prevent robberies hinder him -- simply put his handgun through the opening at the White Elk Motel in the 6100 block of U.S. 1 about 11:15 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk, police said.The robber was described as a black male in his late 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.

Delivery drivers for two Annapolis area pizza stores were the targets of a robber late Wednesday and early yesterday at the same Bay Ridge address -- a vacant house on Chesapeake Avenue.County police said the first incident was reported shortly after 11 p.m. by a driver for Papa John's in Bay Ridge who said he was approached by a gunman in a dark hooded sweat shirt and baggy pants while attempting to deliver a pizza to 1402 Chesapeake.The robbery attempt failed when the driver fled without giving up any money, returning to the pizzeria to call police.

An Edgewater gas station was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash early yesterday morning, county police said.The robber entered the Texaco station at Route 2 and Mayo Road about midnight, grabbed a female customer around the neck, put an unidentified object against her side and ordered the cashier to hand him money, police said. The man then took the attendant and his keys to his Ford Mustang and tried to steal the car.The attendant and the robber scuffled, and the robber drove down Mayo Road with another person in a silver Chevrolet Celebrity station wagon.

Eighteen employees were briefly held hostage yesterday morning at a Rodgers Forge bank while a robber waited for the manager to arrive and unlock the vault. But the police showed up first and, after a short chase, arrested a suspect, authorities said. As the unidentified suspect attended a bail hearing last night, police searched for an accomplice. None of the employees at Bradford Federal Savings Bank at 6900 York Road was hurt. The incident began about 8:30 a.m. when an employee unlocking the bank was pushed inside by a man wearing a bandana.

As nTC the 31-year-old reached for his wallet, he was shot multiple times in the body and right arm.A woman who police describe as a bystander also was shot in the gunfire that erupted Monday about 9:15 p.m. in the 700 block of N. Kenwood Ave., near East Monument Street in East Baltimore.Agent Robert W. Weinhold Jr., a city police spokesman, said the robber, armed with an unknown caliber handgun, accosted Mr. Cummings as he walked by Kenwood Avenue and said, "Kick it out," street slang for a robbery.

Who needs a hidden camera to catch a bank robber when the robber brings his own pictures?Yesterday, a man who took more than $2,000 from a bank in the 2100 block of East Monument Street accommodatingly left behind two photo identification cards -- one of them including his height, weight, eye and hair color . . . and address.Perhaps the fellow needs a new line of work.Jim Dearborn, an FBI spokesman, said agents were preparing to obtain a warrant for the holdup suspect -- a 35-year-old man on probation from another botched bank job.Authorities said the same man was nabbed on Nov. 29, 1989, when he dropped a holdup note on the ground while he was being questioned by the police about a robbery at the Vermont Federal Savings and Loan office in the first block of East Fayette Street.

A man armed with a knife robbed a Glen Burnie pit beef restaurant Saturday of an unknown amount of money, county police said.The man walked into Beefalo Bob's in the 100 block of Mountain Road about 6: 30 p.m., asked about several items on the menu and left. About an hour later, he returned to the restaurant, displayed a knife and ordered the clerk to empty the cash register.The clerk gave the man the money in the register and he fled, running behind the restaurant.The robber was described as a white male, 20 to 25 years old, slim build, with long black hair and a bruise or birthmark on his face, and rotten or gray teeth in the front of his mouth.
