CLEVELAND -- Wide receiver Andre Rison talked and talked and then he talked some more yesterday. He talked to reporters before he took a shower, and then he talked to a new wave of reporters when he came back to his locker to dress. For all of his patience, it seemed inevitable that the discussion of the way he was booed by the Cleveland Browns fans every time he caught a pass in the 20-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers would end with his stalking away. The only surprise was that it was a seemingly innocuous question that provoked him. When a reporter from Cleveland said his playoff dream seemed in jeopardy, Rison, who had been sitting in his locker munching on candy, suddenly got up."

OAKLAND, Calif. - The ring Oakland Raiders receiver Andre Rison will receive if his team wins the Super Bowl will be treated much differently than the one he has now. Rison won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 1996. He was not invited to the White House with the team after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs that off-season. He played in only five regular-season games for the Packers after the Jacksonville Jaguars released him 10 weeks into the season. In the Packers' 35-21 Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots, Rison had the opening touchdown, a 54-yard bomb from quarterback Brett Favre.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Andre Rison served a brief but purposeful sentence yesterday.Browns coach Bill Belichick held out the All-Pro receiver from his accustomed place in the Browns' starting offense. The disciplinary action came after Rison arrived late to a team meeting Thursday in Cleveland.Rison eventually entered the game in the second quarter, contributing a 49-yard reception in the Browns' 27-11 loss to the Vikings. That was Rison's only catch. Belichick did not use him in the second half.Rison's first season with the Browns has been memorable mostly for what he has not yet done.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As players from both teams milled around at midfield following the Jaguars' 30-27 comeback victory over the Ravens, two of the more sociable were wide receivers Andre Rison and Keenan McCardell. Rison was even seen hugging Ravens safety Stevon Moore. But all was not so pleasant during the game. Both Rison and McCardell played for the Cleveland Browns last year before the franchise moved to Baltimore, and now the two receivers sprint downfield for Jacksonville. So for four quarters, they put up with taunts and hard hits.

CLEVELAND -- There was a lovefest for all the Cleveland Browns except Andre Rison yesterday.Although the crowd of 55,875 booed Rison every time a pass was thrown in his direction, the fans mobbed the players who waded into the Dawg Pound at the end of what is expected to be the Browns' last home game in Cleveland. The players seemed genuinely touched by the emotional reaction from the fans, who taunted owner Art Modell, but warmly received all the players except Rison, who said last month that he couldn't wait to get to Baltimore.

CLEVELAND -- When the game was over yesterday, the Cleveland Browns were still reeling with emotion. Offensive tackle Tony Jones was depressed. Quarterback Vinny Testaverde was elated. And wide receiver Andre Rison was irate.Or, better put: Rison was Rison, expletives deleted."They [fans] were yelling, 'Modell -----. Rison -----,' " said Rison, in his first year with the Browns. "Frankly, I'm ready to get out of here, 'cause I don't deserve it. I didn't know we were moving. I'm just getting settled in here.

Who better to espouse the Kansas City Chiefs' chip-on-the-shoulder mentality than much-traveled receiver Andre Rison?"We've been making statements all year; how many more do we have to make?" Rison asked reporters following the Chiefs' 44-9 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. "The only statement we have to make is to get to the Super Bowl."Suddenly, the idea of Kansas City in the Super Bowl doesn't seem as far-fetched as it once did.The Chiefs have taken a lot of abuse since blowing home-field advantage in the playoffs two years ago. Their 1995 team went 13-3, won the AFC West, and then lost a first-round matchup with Ted Marchibroda's Indianapolis Colts, 10-7.

Desperate teams tend to do desperate things.Like signing wide receiver Andre Rison.Desperate is about the best description of the Green Bay Packers' decision to claim Rison off waivers after he was cut loose by the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was an obvious overreaction to the team's disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.Team president Bob Harlan said that general manager Ron Wolf came up to him on the bus after the game and suggested bringing in Rison. Harlan, who runs the administrative side and leaves the football decisions to Wolf, said it was his call.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ravens safety Bennie Thompson is not the type of player who needs extra motivation on game day, but that's precisely what he received when he picked up a copy of the local sports section yesterday.Thompson's breakfast did not go down smoothly, not after he read comments by Jacksonville wide receiver Andre Rison -- a teammate of Thompson's in Cleveland last year -- in the Florida Times-Union. Rison, whom the Ravens released shortly before training camp, took some shots at his former teammates.

SAN DIEGO -- Let's go for a ride through the brain of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Andre Rison for a minute. Buckle your seat belt.Rison is on the West Coast with the music turned up. Chillin' to some G-Funk (gangster funk). Dr. Dre. Snoop Doggy Dog. Now he's on the East Coast. Time for some street violence artists. Red Man. Wu Tang Clan. KRS-1. Then it's on to Cleveland.Next stop, Baltimore."People want to know where I come from," Rison said. "They say I'm arrogant. They say I'm disruptive, out of control and controversial.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars were practicing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the start of training camp, Andre Rison broke free on one play and caught a long pass as the fans cheered.Rison even did a little dance to celebrate. But he didn't get any congratulations when he returned to the huddle.Instead, he heard offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride telling the players that free-lancing wouldn't be tolerated. It turned out that Rison was supposed to run a short pattern on that play.Rison's tendency to free-lance -- along with his habit of being late or missing meetings -- is one of the reasons he's on his third team in three years even though he leads all other seven-year veterans in receptions (522)
