On July 30, 2003, RHODA RIES, 84, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Glen Burnie, MD. She is survived by her husband, Edgar F. Ries; daughter, Delores Mae Siegmann and her husband, Charles E. Siegmann; son, Wayne E. Ries and his wife Janet Ries; grandchildren, Lydia, Justin and Kenneth Ries, Charlene Hiester, Steven Siegmann; great-grandchildren, Krista and Andrew Mascia, Rachel Hiester, Amanda and Emma Ries. A memorial service will be held in Baltimore, MD at a later date. The family graciously suggests that contributions be made in memory of Mrs. Ries to your local chapter of the American Lung Association.

The spring sports season at Boys' Latin High usually means focusing primarily on the nationally acclaimed lacrosse program, and with the unbeaten and top-ranked Lakers looking to add to their storied tradition, this year is no different. There is, however, at least one other sport presently thriving on the Boys' Latin campus, as the Lakers' baseball team is enjoying one of its best campaigns ever. The Lakers are dominating the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference, having clinched a playoff berth for the second straight year.

On February 4, 2005, MARGARET MAY "Muffy" RIES (nee French), beloved wife of the late Martin Ries; loving mother of Shirley Sienkiewicz and her husband Eddie, Martin Ries, Jr. and his wife Kammy and Cindy Christopher and her husband Gary; dear niece of Charles and Eddie Kestler; adored aunt of Judy Lynn Schrieber. Also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Using eerie blue lights and modern formulas for ancient seawater, Justin Ries has re-created the oceans of 120 million years ago in 10 gallon tanks in an East Baltimore lab. The graduate student at the Johns Hopkins University is trying to figure out why prehistoric generations of coral reefs died off for 85 million years -- and then bounced back. The water in Ries' tanks looks no different from what flows out of most faucets, but its appearance is deceiving. That's because Ries has replicated the chemistry of the ancient seas by adjusting the amounts of magnesium and calcium -- two key ingredients for life.
