On April 8, 2008, loving mother of one son Jerome Ridgeway, Jr.; two daughters Dawn and Stacy Ridgeway; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends. Ms. Ridgeway was a graduate of Dunbar High Class of 1954. On Tuesday, friends may call at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services (EAST), 4905 York Road where the family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, services will be held at St. Paul Baptist Church, 3101 The Alameda, where the family will receive friends from 10:30-11:00 a.m. with services to follow.

Two weeks before the County Council is set to debate a bill to extend public water and sewer in west Anne Arundel, opening the door for more development, a community leader is calling for a moratorium on building in the crowded neighborhood of Ridgeway along Telegraph Road in Severn.Mike Shylanski, president of the Greater Severn Improvement Association, sent letters to County Executive Janet S. Owens, and County Councilmen Daniel E. Klosterman Jr. and Bill Burlison asking that the county consider turning away developers who want to build more homes in the intimate neighborhood.

H. Melvin Upton, a retired machinist at the old Western Electric Co. plant, died of a stroke Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Va. He was 78.Services for Mr. Upton were being held today at the Roselawn funeral establishment, Ridgeway, Va.A native of the Brooklyn area of Baltimore, he lived for many years in Dundalk.He married the former Edith Locklear in 1948.In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Edith Elaine Upton of Greenbelt, and a son, James M. Upton of Baltimore.

A 28-year-old Columbia man was convicted yesterday on assault charges in the shooting of two people in a North Laurel mobile home last year.Darrin B. Ridgeway faced charges of attempted murder in the shooting in the first block of Cross St.Three shotgun blasts penetrated the mobile home and hit a man and woman while they slept. The shots missed three young girls sleeping in another bedroom.The man and woman were taken to a hospital, treated and released.Prosecutor I. Matthew Campbell said Ridgeway fired at the mobile home in retaliation for being assaulted by three men. Ridgeway believed that those three men often visited the mobile home.
