You don't have to be a serious fan to know the NFL Films look and sound. Stunning shots of overcast skies hanging low over packed stadiums are accompanied by tympanies rumbling and choral voices soaring as a perfect spiral sails in slow motion through the lights down into the heavenward-stretched hands of an airborne receiver. And that lyricism is juxtaposed with the most in-your-face mud, blood, grime and grit, hand-held close-ups you will ever see on a screen. Sometimes it feels as if you are in the middle of the mayhem on the field.

Ravens running back Ray Rice, who has campaigned passionately against bullying, is throwing his weight behind a Maryland bill that would make cyber-bullying a minor crime. Rice alerted his online fan base Wednesday that he's supporting Baltimore County Del. Jon Cardin's proposal. While he won't be able to make Thursday's bill hearing in Annapolis, he has sent written testimony and he hopes his followers will show up in person. "I WOULD LIKE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO SHOW UP IN PERSON AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!"

It's Fat Tuesday and many of us are going to indulge in rich gumbos, savory jambalayas and sweet beignets in honor of the occasion. Eating healthy may seem fruitless on a day devoted to high-calorie, rich foods. But there are ways to make healthier versions of our favorite Fat Tuesday dishes. Eatingwell.com offers this healthy sausage gumbo recipe. A Pikesville condo owned by Raymell "Ray" Rice has been on the market since August and recently dropped in price. The four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home is in the gated Gray Rock community. Multiple listing service photographs show one room with a sign on the door that reads "man cave. " Nearby there's a framed poster of Rice in his Rutgers uniform. There's also a photo of a closet filled with large athletic shoes. The shoes Rice likely wore while becoming a Super Bowl-winning football star.

Each day this week, reporter and blogger Matt Vensel will break down a key matchup from Sunday's Super Bowl. Today, he looks at how the 49ers may try to keep Ravens running back Ray Rice out of the end zone. In Ray Rice, the Ravens have one of the NFL's most versatile playmakers, a running back who is capable of grinding out tough yards between the tackles and producing big plays outside of them. He is a slippery runner inside the red zone. And he is one of few legit runners who can also flex out wide and do damage as a receiver.

The story seems too good to be true, even to Ravens running back Ray Rice. "We had a guy who lost his brother the night before a game and went out there and played on a Sunday," Rice said. "We lose Ray Lewis. We lost Terrell Suggs. Our whole defense was hurt at one point. We shuffle our offensive line. Our coordinator [gets fired]. "Listen, I need a ghostwriter to write this book, and I want all residuals on this one because this is going to be a great story. " In the middle of this story should be a chapter based in San Diego a little over two months ago. On Nov. 25, Rice manufactured 29 yards against the San Diego Chargers in one of the most improbable scenarios, leading to a 16-13 win in overtime that could be considered a critical step in the Ravens' ride to Super Bowl XLVII.

For a big man, Vince Wilfork moves around a lot. On one snap, he can be at left defensive end or tackle. On another snap, he can be at the same position on the right side. Sometimes, Wilfork can line up directly over the center. But he's always in somebody's head - one big, mean, nasty 6-foot-2, 325-pound headache. "Vince Wilfork is a beast," said Ravens running back Ray Rice about the New England Patriots' top defensive lineman. "He is a flat-out beast. He handles double-teams.

It's probably fair to say that the football world is under the impression that the Ravens are riding high in the postseason because of the "Ray Lewis Effect," which has taken the team to a higher emotional plane and propelled it past the upstart Indianapolis Colts and heavily favored Denver Broncos. That's just fine, of course. There's nothing like a big, over-generalized storyline to juice up a national pregame show, and there's really no good reason to fight the almost universal perception that Lewis is the spiritual force behind the postseason surge that has carried the Ravens into another AFC title showdown against the New England Patriots.

Ray Rice knifed through the heart of the New England Patriots defense, into the end zone and into our collective memories, his 83-yard touchdown run in the 2009 playoffs quickly becoming one of the most unforgettable plays in Ravens history and in his young career. On that frigid afternoon in Foxborough, Rice rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns, carrying the Ravens offense and their hobbled quarterback, Joe Flacco, to a stunning wild-card win. It was the only time in eight career playoff games that Rice topped 70 rushing yards, and his two fumbles in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts gave him five for his postseason career.
