Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the workplace.Consider this familiar scene at a business meeting: A female manager sits among a roomful of men. The men dominate the conversation, with most throwing in their 2 cents' worth without a moment of hesitation. The woman has something to say but instead nods amiably and remains tight-lipped. When she does decide to speak, she prefaces her comment with a tentative, "I'm no expert, but ."Pffffft.

The holy family's flight into Egypt has been a favorite subject for artists down the ages. In standard versions, they appear as three lonely figures with a donkey, traversing hostile terrain or perhaps huddled under a tree in a storm. But not in 18th-century Venice! In the first room of the National Gallery's splendid "The Glory of Venice: Art in the Eighteenth Century," the viewer encounters Sebastiano Ricci's "The Flight Into Egypt," painted about 1713. In it, a gallant Joseph, holding the baby Jesus in one arm, chivalrously guides Mary into a small boat.

A rain delay last night ruined Brian DuBois' bid for a complete game, but it didn't prevent him from winning his fifth straight game. The Bowie left-hander departed after five innings and a 1-hour, 2-minute delay with a two-run lead. Chuck Ricci protected it, as the Baysox beat Reading, 2-0, in the seven-inning opener of a doubleheader at Memorial Stadium. It was a key game for the skidding Baysox (56-54), who had lost seven of their previous nine and 13 of 19 and had not won a series in a month.

READING, Pa. -- Jeff Jackson's two-run home run in the 13th inning last night led the Reading Phillies over the Bowie Baysox, 5-3, in an Eastern League game. With two out in the inning, Mica Lewis singled and stole second. Jackson then hit a 2-0 pitch by Chuck Ricci (4-1) over the wall in left.Reading (14-14) had taken a 3-1 lead after three innings with Gene Schall, who finished 4-for-6, knocking in two runs with RBI singles, and Sam Taylor driving in a run on a groundout.Bowie (17-12) tied it 3-3 with an unearned run in the seventh, and it stayed that way until Jackson's third homer of the season.

For three years, Chuck Ricci pitched in pain that got progressively worse.Doctors were having trouble finding the cause until an arthrogram last July showed some tears in his right arm.So, Ricci went on a five-day therapy program of light weights and work on a Cybex machine that "ended up making my arm as strong as ever."The stiffness is gone and it's nice and loose again. It's like nothing ever happened."Now the results on the field are improving accordingly for Ricci and the Bowie Baysox.

Thunder and lightning showed up in abundance at Memorial Stadium last night, and some of it was not weather-related.Before a violent thunderstorm halted the game between the Bowie Baysox and the Binghamton Mets in the top of the fifth inning, the teams played to an 8-8 tie and combined for 18 hits. The game will be resumed tonight at 6:05, with Binghamton batting and no one out with Frank Jacobs on first. The regularly scheduled game will follow, and it will be a seven-inning contest.Last night's offensive show included three home runs and five doubles, and it left Baysox starter Jose Mercedes searching for his first victory of the season.

Throw a loose ball in the middle of a scrum and P.T. Ricci's eyes light up at corralling a potential ground ball. Ask him to take that ball and beat a goalie and the Loyola senior long-stick midfielder isn't as comfortable. "I'd rather try to get it to one of the attackmen whom I know can finish," he said. "When I shoot the ball, I'm not really aiming. I'm just throwing it as hard as I can at the cage." For the record, Ricci has scored six goals in his career, but his forte involves gobbling up ground balls.

COLLEGE PARK - Along with "press," "post" and "trap," Maryland basketball players have added some new expressions into their lexicon this season. Adrian Bowie, Dave Neal and the other Terps couldn't have told you before the preseason about "downward dog" or "child pose." Now, the players know all too well about these and other yoga positions. Their challenging yoga training - which began weeks before their opening game and has continued into the season - is part of the regimen introduced by Paul Ricci.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - An admitted accomplice in what federal prosecutors contend was an illegal, multimillion-dollar visa scheme testified yesterday that a Virginia company owned by the defendants routinely submitted fraudulent documents to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service on behalf of foreign clients seeking permanent residency in the United States. Frank Ricci, 60, who has pleaded guilty to visa fraud and money laundering, told U.S. District Judge T. S. Ellis III that he also "misappropriated" $1.3 million from clients seeking permanent green cards under the decade-old investor visa program.
