On July 14, 2006, MILDRED L. RHOADS, age 84, of Mc Kinney, TX. She was born on October 27, 1921 in Baltimore, to Henry and Teresa (Misik) Becker. She married Albert E. Rhoads on June 14, 1941. Mrs Rhoads was a secretary for Martin Marietta for over 20 years. She attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She is survived by her children, Douglas Rhoads of Scottsdale, AZ, Donna Leopoldus of Euless, TX, and Barry Rhoads of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, including Jacob and Jillian Coffey of Mc Kinney, TX; 1 brother; 4 sisters and a host of other family and friends.

Arthur L. Rhoads Jr., a Baltimore attorney who maintained a general law practice for more than six decades, died Thursday of complications from a stroke at St. Agnes Hospital. He was 87. "He was a lawyer's lawyer and was representing the little guy, like Andy Griffith on the TV show 'Matlock' before there was a 'Matlock,' " said Andrew J. Long, who retired from the practice of law in 2001. "He was an incredible man and friend. There were no airs about him. " The son of a grocer and a homemaker, Arthur Lampe Rhoads Jr. was born and raised in Frederick, where he graduated in 1942 from St. John's High School.

Rhoads is a 2004 graduate of Bel Air High School and a 2008 graduate of Gettysburg College, with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She works in marketing and communications for Association Matters Inc., an association management company based in Timonium. Services for Donald M. Rhoads, a salesman who sold flooring for many years, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fred F. Groff Funeral Home in Lancaster, Pa.Mr. Rhoads, a resident of the Southland Hills section of Towson, died yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital yesterday after a long illness. He was 67.Born and raised in Quarryville, Pa., he played basketball and soccer in high school and joined the Army at the outbreak of World War II. He worked with his father in Lancaster for what was then known as the Armstrong Cork Co., now an international flooring company.

It rained the day Becky Rhoads married Scott Blevins. She had planned her wedding down to the last pink and blue detail, but the weather was one thing she just couldn't control. It rained so much that day she had to cry. "Even though it was raining, honey, you and Scott were the handsomest couple," her mother insists with a worried look. Becky's face, swollen from morphine, relaxes on the pillow of her bed at the nursing home. "We were handsome," she agrees. And it was the happiest day of her life.

Ex-Oriole Cabrera signs 1-year deal with Nats baseball Daniel Cabrera is no longer an Oriole, but he's not leaving the area. Cabrera, who wasn't tendered a contract by the Orioles last week, has signed a one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Washington Nationals, pending a physical, according to an industry source. The Orioles would probably have had to pay him between $3 million and $4 million in 2009 had they offered him arbitration. Cabrera, 27, has spent his entire career in the Orioles' organization.

COLLEGE PARK -- Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen said yesterday that he never has had a team experience so many serious injuries in his 39 years of coaching. Starting left guard Jaimie Thomas will be out about eight weeks and will have surgery to repair a broken right fibula he suffered against Virginia on Saturday night, Friedgen said. Thomas joins starting right guard Andrew Crummey, who broke his left fibula two weeks ago against Georgia Tech, on the sideline. Thomas' injury is more severe than Crummey's, Friedgen said.

Jill Glessner scored 19 points and the Loyola women's basketball team earned its first home win of the season yesterday, defeating the University of Pennsylvania, 75-63. The victory gives the Greyhounds (6-6) a two-game win streak. Loyola extended its 44-36 halftime lead to double digits in the second half. The Quakers (4-6) never got any closer than nine. When Penn fouled late in the game, the Greyhounds went 6-for-6 from the line. Joey Rhoads led the Quakers with 19 points. Vika Sholokhova added 10 points for Loyola.

Anita Rhoades Cammon, a retired Baltimore public schools English department chairwoman, died of complications from a stroke Monday at Northwest Hospital Center. The Windsor Hills resident was 77. Born Anita Rudella Rhoades in Baltimore, she grew up in the Gilmor Homes and on Gold Street. She was a 1945 Frederick Douglass High School graduate. As a high school senior, she debated whether she should go into teaching or fashion design. "As a young woman, she made her own clothes and did stylish sketches of fashion models," said her niece, Lona Rhoades Ba. "She also worked alongside her mother at catering jobs.

Fran Rhoads took a golf lesson from John McNaney recently -- the two Frederick County professionals have played several rounds together in past weeks -- and yesterday the two found out it meant mixed blessings in a Middle Atlantic Professionals Golfers' Association pro-am at Rolling Road Golf Club.The two, taking advantage of their local knowledge of the tight and demanding Catonsville course, shared first place with rounds of 3-under par 67 to lead 61 pros in the club's traditional event.
