Sunday afternoon, Ravens coach John Harbaugh was asked if he planned to bring in another punter to press incumbent Sam Koch, who has been Baltimore's primary punter since the Ravens drafted him back in 2006. Harbaugh defended Koch, saying it would be “ pretty tough to find competition ” for Koch and also kicker Justin Tucker. After all, the Ravens had one of the NFL's best special teams units after a subpar 2011 season. "There aren't too many guys that want to come here and kick or punt,” Harbaugh said.

SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners manager Lou Piniella knows all the numbers. The Orioles dominated the season series. They were undefeated in three regular-season games against Randy Johnson. They finished the season with the American League's best record. He doesn't seem worried."Baltimore has a real good ballclub," he said. "We look forward to the challenge."And why not? The Mariners finished the regular season on an emotional high. Outfielder Ken Griffey had six home runs in the last 11 games and hit his 56th of the year on the same day that Johnson recorded his 2,000th career strikeout and became the first pitcher in Mariners history to win 20 games.

They are, by Blast coach Kevin Healey's estimation, the best four teams in the National Professional Soccer League and deserving of their positions in their respective conference finals. But there is one team with a question mark at goalkeeper, of all spots, making the long-shot Edmonton Drillers' odds of winning it all even longer. Edmonton will start rookie keeper Jim Larkin when the Drillers open their series against Milwaukee tonight. Beating the Wave, which had the league's best record during the regular season and was the preseason favorite to win the league championship, is tough enough in any circumstances, but with a rookie backstop who played only nine games during the regular season?

Even after last season's run to the AFC championship game, the Ravens weren't given as much respect as anticipated by NFL schedule-makers. Nearly a third of the league received more prime-time games than the Ravens when the NFL announced its 2009 schedule Tuesday. The Ravens, who return 19 of 22 starters from an 11-5 team, are scheduled for three national television games. Ten teams (the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles)

Blast midfielder Paul Wright says a win tonight in Philadelphia cannot help avenge what happened last spring when the KiXX ended his team's season. That will have to wait for a later time. Tonight, he adds, simply represents regular-season business as usual. "They beat us when it counted most," said Wright, who has seven assists this season. "This is just a regular-season game - it's important, yes. But it's not as important as a playoff game. So they're one up on us, and the only time we're going to be able to get them back is in the playoffs."
