During the depths of World War II, there was time and space in The Evening Sun to print an occasional squib of lighthearted news from abroad. On Sept. 3, 1943, a story with a dateline of "Somewhere in England" bore the intriguing headline "Marylander's Pet Crow Has Run Of Post." The Associated Press reported that "Oscar the Crow, a young bird adopted by Private Richard E. Reedy of Mayo, near Annapolis, is now listed officially on the roster of a United States ordnance depot in Great Britain."

DONALD LEROY REEDY, age 76, died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Herman and Mary Burke Reedy. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Joy Farrell Reedy. He is survived by a son Shawn Bryan Reedy of Annapolis; two daughters Cathy Hoffman of Atlanta, GA and Susan Sarentino of Bayonne, NJ; one granddaughter Emily Hoffman of Atlanta, one brother Carl Reedy of Baltimore; two sisters Sandy Smith of Stewartstown, PA and Shirley Neighoff of Selbyville, DE and several nieces and nephews.

William Reedy, a Detroit bar owner, who had said he was not behind the wheel of the pickup in the Christmas Day crash that killed former major-league manager Billy Martin, was found guilty yesterday in Port Crane, N.Y., of driving with a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit for intoxication. Reedy, 53, was cleared of a lesser charge of driving while impaired. The jury deliberated for about two hours before reaching a verdict.Reedy, who was fined $350 and whose driving privileges in New York State were revoked for at least six months, was convicted of a charge of driving with 0.10 percent or more blood-alcohol content, a misdemeanor.

Mount Hebron three-sport coach Mark Reedy announced that he will step down as the school's indoor and outdoor track and field coach after this spring. Reedy, who has been coaching the Vikings since 1999, said he will return to coach the girls cross country team in the fall before retiring. Reedy, who informed the track and field team of his decision Tuesday, said juggling the coaching responsibilities, his sales job at Fireline Corp. and his duties as a father of two became too much to bear.

Paul Edwin Reedy, president and owner of Reedy Electric Co., died Saturday of cancer at his home in Woodbine, Howard County. He was 61. Born in Baltimore and raised in Oella, Mr. Reedy was a 1959 graduate of Catonsville High School. He served in the Navy as an electrical specialist aboard the USS Proteus from 1959 to ,1962. Returning home, he joined the commercial and industrial electrical contracting firm in Ellicott City that had been established by his father in 1952. The business is now being operated by third-generation family members.

On April 7, 2004, SALLIE FRANCES RIDDLE, loving sister of Polly Price and Nellie Dorman, dear aunt of Donald Riddle, devoted mother-in-law of Mary Reedy and cherished grandmother of Connie Pledge and Jerry Ridel. She is also survived by great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
