Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore and Baltimore County.Western DistrictStabbing/arrest: After breaking into a second-floor apartment in the 2100 block of Baker St. about 8: 15 p.m. Tuesday, a man allegedly stabbed a 30-year-old woman in the back and took her 9-month-old child hostage in a first-floor apartment. Two hours later, the police Quick Response Team entered the house and arrested the man. The child was uninjured. Charged with attempted murder and other offenses and held at the Central Booking and Intake Center is James Harvin, 43, of the 1200 block of W. Lafayette Ave. The woman was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

A 27-year-old Columbia man was charged yesterday in two burglaries Wednesday at The Mall in Columbia, Howard County police said.Timothy M. Williams of the 6400 block of Mellow Wine Way in River Hill faces two counts of burglary, one count of theft, one count of attempted felony theft and two counts of destruction of property, police said.About 8: 15 a.m. Wednesday, police said, two employees at Lerner Shops walked into a back stock room at the store and spotted a man who fled out the rear door with an ATM card from an employee's purse, police said.

Two men, one with a 9 mm handgun, robbed an Annapolis sporting goods store Wednesday, then ordered a clerk to open a back door for their escape, county police said.The men walked into the Foot Locker in Harbor Center on Solomon's Island Road south of the city about 8: 30 p.m. and browsed through the sweat shirts.One went to the cashier and demanded money while the other showed the handle of the gun tucked into his waistband, police said.The men took money, then forced the clerk to open a rear door, through which they fled, police said.

Payson St. about midnight Sunday when a gunman on a bicycle rode by and shot him in the back. The victim was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.Drug arrests: In separate incidents Sunday, police arrested three men on drug charges and seized more than $600. In the 700 block of Appleton St., police arrested a man in possession of six small plastic bags of suspected marijuana.

A string of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Hampstead area appears to be the work of a man who enters unlocked doors, grabs pocketbooks and money and escapes, according to police.The incidents began April 4, and all but one occurred at homes between 9 p.m. and midnight, police said. The exception was April 15 between 7: 30 p.m. and 9 p.m. at a business in the 700 block of Hanover Pike, when someone entered a rear door and stole a gym bag, pocketbook and $601.In at least two incidents, May 3 in the 1100 block of S. Main St. and May 20 in the 1000 block of S. Main St., the intruder was surprised by residents and fled.

Startled by employees, an armed man trying to rob a Brooklyn Park McDonald's restaurant Wednesday fled before he got any money.County police said he ran out a rear door.An employee told police that when he went to clean the bathroom at the restaurant in the 5000 block of Ritchie Highway, he found a man hiding behind the door.The man pulled out a gold-colored revolver, shoved it in the clerk's side and ordered him to open the safe as they walked to the front of the restaurant.Two other workers, hearing their colleague scream, confronted the gunman before he got to the front, police said.

Robber grabs money from convenience storeAn unarmed man robbed a Lothian convenience store of an undisclosed amount of money yesterday, county police said.The bandit walked into a Dash In store in the 54400 block of Southern Maryland Blvd. about 4 a.m. and demanded money, but did not show a weapon or imply that he had one, police said.When the clerk, Tahiya-Monique Shanks Dorsey, 25, did not comply, the man jumped over the counter, opened the register, grabbed money and ran, police said.Police logChurchton: Someone broke into a home in the 1200 block of Ellicott Ave. between 11 a.m. and 3: 30 p.m. Monday and stole a personal stereo, a Nautica wristwatch and a bottle of vodka, together valued at $400, and $625.

Police reports in Baltimore city and county: Southwestern Baltimore Shooting : A man, 21, was walking in the 300 block of Furow St. about 4 a.m. Sunday when three gunmen got out of a car and shot the victim in the upper thigh before speeding away. The vicitm was taken by a city Fire Department ambulance to an area hosptial for treatment. No arrests had been made and police were without a motive. Southern Baltimore Shooting : Police were seeking a gunman who shot a man, 33, in the upper body about 1 p.m. Sunday during a robbery that netted the gunman $260.

Police reports in baltimore city and county: Southern Baltimore Shooting Police were seeking an unidentified man who approached another man, 54, as he sat in a bar in the 400 block or S. Gilmor St. about 10:30 p.m. Friday and shot him in the head with a BB gun before fleeing on foot. Police said the victim refused hospital treatment. Eastern Baltimore Burglary A jar containing at least $400 in coins was stolen Friday from the second-floor bedroom of a house in the 900 block of N. Collington Ave. by someone who entered the dwelling through a window.

Police reports in Baltimore city and county: Northern Baltimore Robbery A boy, 15, was walking in the 3000 block of Woodland Ave. in Pimlico about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday when he observed several teenage males sitting on the front porch of a house and heard one of them say something that sounded racial. When the teen reached the 2900 block of Woodland Ave., one of the youths the victim observed earlier approached him from the rear armed with a sledgehammer. That youth was joined by another, and together they robbed the victim of his cell phone.

Police reports in Baltimore city and county: Southeastern Baltimore Robbery try A woman, 39, was walking in the 1800 block of Lancaster St. in Fells Point about 9 p.m. Saturday when a man demanded her purse. When the woman told the man there was nothing in her purse, he struggled with her then fled when she continued to resist. Eastern Baltimore Robbery A 50-year-old homeless man was standing outside a bar at East Biddle Street and North Milton Avenue about 9:20 p.m. Saturday when he was attacked by three men who struck him in the head and robbed him of $13 and drawing supplies.

POLICE REPORTS IN BALTIMORE CITY AND COUNTY: Central Baltimore Thefts A navigational system valued at $300 was stolen Wednesday from a 2008 Honda parked in a garage in the first block of Frederick St. At the same location that day, someone broke into a 2004 Jeep Cherokee and stole a laptop computer, an iPod, an iPod charger, a pair of sunglasses and 12 compact discs. Total value of the property was $1,330. Theft A 2005 Tri-Cross bike valued at $2,000, with serial number P54N41871, was stolen Aug. 26 or Aug. 27 from outside Peabody Institute at Mount Vernon Place.

Baltimore Eastern Assault: A man, 18, was attacked Monday afternoon by another man in the 3000 block of E. Monument St. and was struck in the face with a bottle. The victim was treated at the scene by city Fire Department medics. No arrest had been made. Cutting : A woman, 19, was going to the aid of a relative involved in an altercation with another person in the 1600 block of N. Chapel St. about noon Monday when someone cut her on the shoulder with a sharp weapon.

Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes from police reports in Baltimore and Baltimore County. Baltimore Northern Robbery/arrests : Three teenage boys were arrested late Saturday in connection with the armed robbery of a man, 64, in the 2900 block of Hargrove Alley less than 10 minutes earlier. The man was walking when he was assaulted and robbed of $5, police said. About 10 minutes later, a Johns Hopkins University police officer observed three youths walking in the 3000 block of N. Charles St who matched the description of the robbers and held them for city police.

The woman and her boyfriend boarded the No. 27 bus and tried to find a seat as it traveled through North Baltimore. But a fight quickly broke out between the pair and a group of nine students heading home from their Hampden middle school, police said. By the time Maryland Transit Administration police officers reached the bus along East 33rd in Waverly on Tuesday afternoon, the teens had punched and kicked the woman, dragging her out of the vehicle's rear door and leaving her with broken bones around her eye. The nine students from Robert Poole Middle School, who are all 14 or 15, are charged as juveniles with aggravated assault and destruction of property.

Baltimore Southwestern Assault -- Police were seeking a 38-year-old man who cut his girlfriend's throat with an unknown weapon in a house in the 800 block of N. Augusta Ave. about 7 p.m. yesterday. The woman was being treated at an area hospital and was expected to survive, police said. Western Shooting -- A man and an armed female accomplice were being sought in the shooting early Friday of a 35-year-old woman during an attempted robbery in the bedroom of her home in the 500 block of N. Carey St. When an argument broke out about the victim owing the couple $1,800, she was shot in a leg by the other woman.
