Raquel Coelho, 10, goes roller-skating almost every weekend. "I meet most of my friends. We like the music," said the Stevens Forest Elementary student. "We like to skate fast and talk and we like the DJ." The DJ is Barbara Schneider, who has been playing music at the Supreme Sports Club skating rink for over 27 years. "I have kids come up to me with problems in their family or just worried about the world in general," said Schneider, who many affectionately call DJ Barb or the Skate Lady.

A Baltimore police officer is a suspect in the killing of his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found in a city park last year, and has been placed on desk duty without his gun and badge, police officials and other sources confirmed yesterday. Officer Jay C. Harris, 29, has not been charged with a crime. His lawyer said yesterday that his client "has already cooperated with the police and will continue to cooperate in any fair and reasonable way he can." Homicide detectives have been working since September on the case of Raquel L. Workman, 25, who was reported missing by her mother in August and was found dead a month later in Cylburn Park, off Greenspring Avenue.

Howard County schools' chief labor negotiator, Robert S. Lazarewicz, is retiring to become the county's first full-time labor co- ordinator, Executive James N. Robey announced yesterday. Lazarewicz , 59, will start the $67,434-a-year appointed job Sept. 11, much to the relief of county union leaders, who have pushed for someone to fill the job since it was created nine years ago. The post was left vacant by former County Executive Charles I. Ecker because of financial strains created by the last recession.

At 8 p.m., the exact hour the vigil was supposed to start, Margaret Hamlett rose from her porch chair and addressed those assembled at her home on Wylie Avenue. "Y'all come on. We're gonna have prayer." Then she prayed. Prayed for her relatives who had died within the past year. Prayed especially for her grandson Jerrod Hamlett, who was only 23 on June 25, 2005, when a boy shot him to death. The boy was only 13. He's since been committed to a juvenile facility until he's 21 years old. Margaret Hamlett even prayed for "the boy that took Jerrod's life.

ME, Loana. You, Tumak." That was Raquel Welch's big line in One Million Years B.C. Her only line, in fact. As a screen incarnation of Woman in the Time of Dinosaurs -- human beings and dinosaurs never actually co-existed -- Miss Welch grunted and pantomimed her role. Her snarly cave girl catfight with Martine Beswick was especially evocative. Raquel, a proud Latina, was distressed to have to streak her hair blond as Loana, and certainly didn't think this movie was her ticket to stardom.

At 62, Raquel Sanudo appears to be a friendly, easygoing and good-humored person with a motherly manner. But there's more. "Raquel is an iron lady," said County Executive James N. Robey, her boss for most of the past seven years. "She can be tough as nails." Sanudo is Howard's chief administrative officer and has been for 14 years under Robey, a Democrat, and Charles I. Ecker, a Republican. When the executive is away, the County Charter makes her acting executive. At other times, she supervises County Council legislation, the county budget, personnel, purchasing, insurance and bond sales.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Maybe it's easy to overlook Melvin Mora the baseball player because Melvin Mora the person is even more multifaceted, interesting. Let's start with his quintuplets, all dressed alike. The two boys - Christian Emmanuel, Matthew David - in identical orange shirts and shorts and the three girls - Rebekah Alesha, Jada Priscilla and Genesis Raquel - in white shirts and orange skirts. They are scampering outside the Orioles' clubhouse, waiting for papa to emerge. Mora could never play another baseball game in his life and still have more than enough work to do, raising these beautiful 3-year-olds with his wife, Gisel.

* "Evening Shade" (8-8:30 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- If "Cheers" is the place you want to go where everybody knows your name, maybe "Evening Shade" is the place movie stars want to go when their names aren't above the bill in movies any more. Tonight's guest star is Raquel Welch, which is kind of interesting. Burt Reynolds is executive producer as well as star of this show, and now, in his first season after separating from Loni Anderson, suddenly he's making room on his show for guest shots by glamorous contemporaries.
