Injury. Those six letters can be devastating to the career of any professional wrestling superstar, especially during the build-up to the biggest show of the year. In recent months, several of WWE's top stars have been sidelined with injuries of varying degrees. Christian, Rey Mysterio, Alberto del Rio, Sin Cara and Layla have all missed weeks -- if not months -- of action. Others like Mark Henry, Big Show and Ted DiBiase, who has been wrestling in a cast and brace, have been working despite injuries.

On a night when we saw a six-man tag match involving John Cena, Roman Reigns and Chris Jericho be the main event, all the buzz came from the announcement that the WWE is inviting Michael Sam to Raw in Baltimore next week. Midway through this Monday's Raw , the WWE ran a graphic (complete with Monday Night Football graphic and music) officially announcing that they were inviting the recently released Sam to Raw. JBL commented that he couldn't believe Sam wasn't signed to a team, and how unfair that was. Cole said that if Sam does accept, he'd be granted ringtime and an open mic to say whatever he wanted.

Shawn Michaels, who suffered a torn triceps during an angle with Chris Jericho on Sunday night at the Raw taping, joins John Cena (herniated disc) and Randy Orton (broken collarbone) on the list of Raw stars on the injured list. It would be a devastating blow for WWE if Michaels were to miss Sunday's show and be out for an extended period of time. Not only because it is another significant hit to the Raw roster, but also because the Michaels-Jericho program has had such an excellent buildup.

Before RAW on Monday, we had seen just about everything in the Triple H/Daniel Bryan feud. We had seen Triple H throw everything he had politically at Bryan, and Bryan overcome it. We've seen Triple H get physical with Bryan, and we've seen Bryan get some small strikes in here and there. We saw the brutal attack Triple H put on Bryan a couple weeks ago. And finally, on Monday, we got the final piece of the puzzle: Bryan finally getting his hands on Triple H for a beatdown of his own. Earlier in the night, Triple H and Stephanie had promised that Bryan wouldn't be there, and ran down previous “flavors of the months” that he had beaten.

This past Thursday night, Chris Jericho found a Brazilian flag ringside at a live event in Brazil during his match against CM Punk. Jericho picked up the flag, showed it to the audience, threw it down on the ground and kicked it out of the ring . The local police, present at the event, stopped the match and demanded that Jericho give an apology or face incarceration. He did so , and the match resumed. Afterwards, it was announced on WWE.com that WWE suspended Jericho indefinitely for the incident, which later became 30 days.

Elimination Chamber was a strong pay-per-view top to bottom, which finished with an entertaining Chamber match, even if many fans didn't get the result they wanted. Randy Orton retained his title in a Chamber match with six strong competitors that all were allowed to shine at various times during the match. The match included some great spots, and some excellent storytelling, especially by the final two combatants: Orton and Daniel Bryan. The first three wrestlers eliminated were (in order)

In the wake of WWE's Over the Limit pay-per-view, a new Intercontinental champion has been crowned, four other champions continue to hold onto their titles and John Laurinaitis remains employed. Sunday night's show delivered an evening of quality entertainment and good in-ring performances. On a non-major PPV event, WWE delivered a product that surpassed the expectations of many. CM Punk has held the WWE championship for 339 days. On Sunday at WWE's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, where CM Punk meets Ryback for the WWE championship in the Cell, Punk will have held the gold for 343 days. While it's easy to look into the future, including a tantalizing possible matchup with The Rock and what many would hope to be a headlining bout at WrestleMania 29, CM Punk is doing anything but that, focusing primarily on his opponent Sunday. “I'm glad [I'm facing Ryback]

In the days leading up to RAW, the buzz was about the upcoming crowd in Chicago, and the possible return of CM Punk. By the end of the night, the talk was mostly about Daniel Bryan and Triple H. The two advanced their storyline Monday night, starting with a verbal rundown by Triple H and culminating in Triple H hitting a Pedigree on a motionless Daniel Bryan. Earlier in the night, Bryan came out to call out Triple H once again. He appealed to the crowd, even saying that they would “hijack RAW” together (which is what a movement in Chicago had said they would try to do)

In a backstage segment on WWE Raw on Monday night, John Cena said something fairly interesting, something that might simultaneously excite and infuriate fans. Cena acknowledged that the fans were calling for change, and that the company would be changing with the WWE Network. He talked about the fans chanting for Daniel Bryan and some of the other young wrestlers. He then said that the future of the WWE would be determined by Cena's match with Randy Orton in the main event. Cena said that his feud with Orton would finish that night, and whoever wanted to step up would have to go through him. Now, it was good that he acknowledged the fans chanting and wanting change.

Wrestling fans have seen the heel authority figure storyline over and over. It generally plays out in a similar way. The authority figure supports a heel wrestler, targets a face wrestler or both. Then, the heel wins the title, and the authority figure does a lot to try to help him keep the title. And for a while, The Authority storyline has played out exactly that way. On Monday's WWE Raw, however, it took a bit of a turn. At the beginning of the show -- as Randy Orton was ranting about how he was being mistreated, and that as the face the company, he should be treated better -- The Authority came out. It had been teased over the past few weeks that there might be dissension between Orton, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon, but Monday night was the first time that it was acknowledged directly.

Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan put on a terrific match to end WWE Raw on Monday night, and it ended in a disqualification. John Cena, who earlier insisted that Bryan get the nod as challenger to Orton's title, came to make the save, but the show ended with Orton standing tall, holding both championships. This creates an interesting bottleneck for the WWE championship -- Cena seemingly will get another match at some point, and Bryan is back in the hunt. With the Royal Rumble looming, and only one main championship for winner to seek, you have to wonder how the scenario will play out. Another thing to consider -- if Bryan or Cena doesn't win the Royal Rumble and battle for the WWE title, a perfect candidate to face a villain unified champion is Chris Jericho, who himself unified the titles in 2001.

Randy Orton became the WWE World Heavyweight champion, unifying both top WWE titles and defeating John Cena in the lone match bearing the Pay Per View's name at TLC on Sunday night. Like most matches on the card, the match was entertaining, with some excellent dramatic moments, particularly near the end of the contest. At one point, Orton handcuffed Cena to the bottom rope and began to climb the ladder to retrieve both titles, only to have Cena unhook the bottom rope in hot pursuit.

It was a scene we have (sort of) seen before: John Cena and Randy Orton, face to face, two champions in the ring. We have seen John Cena and Randy Orton square off. We have seen John Cena, as champion, stare down another champion (CM Punk). Where this will lead is the big question. Among many in the WWE fan base there has been discussion of title unification -- the World Heavyweight title today feels more like the Intercontinental title of 20 years ago, as opposed to a major championship equal to the WWE title.
