The Lake Clifton boys basketball team is mostly quick and small, and the Lakers are well-aware there will be games when they have to scrap for everything to get a win. Against bigger and stronger Randallstown at the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 290 Memorial Mixer at Northwestern on Thursday, the Lakers faced one of those games. Lake Clifton found a way to beat the No.12 Rams' press just enough times, hit just enough shots, grab just enough rebounds and tirelessly defend to earn a 60-53 win. Senior guard Daquan Ross had a game-high 18 points and junior forward Tavon Coleman added 12 for the Lakers.

Ahmaad Wilson "didn't really know anything" about Central Connecticut State when coaches from the Northeast Conference program began recruiting him. The Randallstown senior wasn't familiar with the Blue Devils' roster or any particulars about the university. But after a good bit of research into the school, almost daily conversations with his recruiter, and the realization that CCSU has become a popular place for Baltimore and D.C.-area basketball players, Wilson was sold on spending the next four years of his life in New Britain, Conn.

The state's highest court has overturned the second-degree murder conviction of Thomas B. Harris, convicted of fatally stabbing Karim Cross in a Randallstown bar in 2006, and ordered a new trial. The Court of Appeals agreed with a decision by the lower appeals court. Harris was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger said prosecutors would make a decision on "whether we can go forward" with retrying Harris, as they would have to find witnesses from six years ago. The court agreed with the lower appeals court ruling that the trial judge should have declared a mistrial.

A Walmart Supercenter is scheduled to open Oct. 17 on Liberty Road in Randallstown, and Baltimore County officials hope it will give a boost to a corridor targeted for revitalization. County officials and community leaders expect that the store at Liberty Plaza will attract attention from other major chains to the area. Consumers in Randallstown have high levels of education and income, they say, but the area has struggled to draw national retailers and restaurants. Residents complain that there are too many fast-food restaurants and low-quality stores.
