On February 3, 2008, CHARLES W. VESTAL, JR.; loving son of Rita M. Vestal (nee Porter) and the late Charles W. Vestal, Sr.; dear brother of Catherine Vestal Forehand; uncle of Heather King, Selina King, Anna Ory and C. J. Ory. A private cremation was held. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 10003 Bird River Road, Middle River, Maryland, 21220 on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Vestal's name to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church or Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1704 Eastern Avenue, Essex, Maryland, 21221, will be appreciated.

Dr. William H. Gaffney Jr., a retired Northeast Baltimore dentist, died of cancer complications Saturday at Franklin Square Hospital. The Rosedale resident was 83. Born in Baltimore and raised in Southwest Baltimore, he was a 1940 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School. During World War II, he served in the Navy as a radio operator. He sailed on the Queen Mary on Christmas Eve in 1943 and was in the third wave to land on Omaha Beach. While in England, he befriended Ernest Hemingway, who was a war correspondent there, family members said.

Allyssa Seebold went to kindergarten last year at St. Rita's School in Dundalk, but when that closed, she moved to Our Lady Queen of Peace School in Middle River for first grade. Now she has to find a new school again. Her mother worries that Allyssa, who also switched schools in prekindergarten, is feeling the effects of not being able to settle in at one school. "Knowing she's not going to have the same friends next year is hard for her," Terra Seebold said, "and I'm starting to see those problems in her grades."

Also survived by nine grandchildren, Nicole, Renee, Jeffrey, Amber, Amy, April, Alisha, Kyle and Tyler and five great-grandchildren; sister, Romana Volz and brothers, August and Robert Koch. The family receive friends at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., 7401 Belair Road, Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Catholic Prayer service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace on Monday at 10 A.M. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Park.
