South River scored five unanswered second-half goals to defeat Broadneck, 10-9, in a Class 4A-3A East boys lacrosse quarterfinal yesterday. The score was tied at 4 at halftime before Broadneck built an 8-4 lead. Mark Brashears paced the Bruins (10-6) with three goals. Matt Gregoire's game-high four goals led South River (10-4). Century 16, Poolesville 4 -- Tyler Cockey had five goals and three assists to power the visiting Knights (11-5) past the Falcons (9-4) in a Class 2A-1A West quarterfinal.

Bev Campbell's second goal broke a 2-2 tie and lifted visiting No. 11 Perry Hall (9-4) past Bel Air (9-5), 3-2, last night in a 3A-4A North quarterfinal.The Gators scored twice in the first three minutes of the second half to erase a 1-0 deficit. Campbell's game-winner came just 40 seconds after Lynn Wilkinson had tied it midway of the period.* C.M. Wright 11, Patterson 0: Miranda James made a hat trick to power visiting No. 5 C.M. Wright (11-2) past Patterson (8-2) in a Class 3A-4A North regional quarterfinal.

Rodney Spruill had 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead the second-ranked Walbrook boys basketball team to a 95-34 victory over visiting Towson in the Class 3A North regional quarterfinals yesterday. Spruill's brother, Brandon, added 15 points, and Marc Davis had 10 points and 10 assists and Eric Pitts had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Walbrook (20-4) is undefeated against Maryland high schools, with its four losses coming against out-of-state schools. The Warriors advanced to tomorrow night's regional semifinals against Carver.

Senior star Anita Hyman had 30 points and six assists to lead host Patterson (15-9) over Dulaney (5-13), 65-53, in a state Class 4A North region quarterfinal last night.Patterson and Northwestern will meet in a region semifinal tomorrow.Perry Hall 73, Lake Clifton 59: Freshman Amanda Ficher scored 26 points and Alyssa Phoebus added a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds as the Gators (6-15) rolled to victory in a 4A North quarterfinal game. Perry Hall and Western meet in a region semifinal tomorrow.
