South River scored five unanswered second-half goals to defeat Broadneck, 10-9, in a Class 4A-3A East boys lacrosse quarterfinal yesterday. The score was tied at 4 at halftime before Broadneck built an 8-4 lead. Mark Brashears paced the Bruins (10-6) with three goals. Matt Gregoire's game-high four goals led South River (10-4). Rodney Spruill had 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead the second-ranked Walbrook boys basketball team to a 95-34 victory over visiting Towson in the Class 3A North regional quarterfinals yesterday. Spruill's brother, Brandon, added 15 points, and Marc Davis had 10 points and 10 assists and Eric Pitts had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Walbrook (20-4) is undefeated against Maryland high schools, with its four losses coming against out-of-state schools. The Warriors advanced to tomorrow night's regional semifinals against Carver.
