In his final column for The New York Times, former Hollywood reporter Bernard Weinraub included a startling confession: That perhaps he should have stopped writing about the film industry after marrying a powerful studio executive. "Clearly, I stayed too long on my beat, clinging to a notion that I could sidestep conflicts of interest by avoiding direct coverage of Sony," he wrote last Sunday of his 1997 marriage to Amy Pascal, who would later become the chairwoman of Sony Pictures. Weinraub switched coverage areas several years after the fact, but critics maintained that this was too late, and in the column, Weinraub expressed regret that his marriage may have sullied his newspaper's reputation.

Katherine RocheSecretary, fund-raiserKatherine Dougherty Roche, a retired secretary who was an active fund-raiser for the Carmelite Monastery in Towson, died Thursday of complications of heart disease at her home in Towson.The 92-year-old Baltimore native retired in 1966 after working part time for a decade as a secretary at the Baltimore school headquarters. She earlier worked as a secretary at the Army's Baltimore Signal Depot at Fort Holabird for 20 years.The former Katherine Dougherty was the last surviving member of the Class of 1919 at Mount St. Agnes High School.

Shirley Marie Caltrider, a homemaker and artist, died of multiple sclerosis Tuesday at Northwest Hospital Center. The Reisterstown resident was 67. Born Shirley Marie Edwards in Banner Elk, N.C., she moved with her family to Randallstown. She was a 1955 graduate of Milford Mill High School, where she remained an active alumna and organized class reunions. Mrs. Caltrider had volunteered for many years at McDonogh School, which her two sons attended, had been president of its American Field Service program and helped with the school's annual Christmas bazaar.
