Fans who wish to purchase tickets for the tentative NFL exhibition game between the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints next Aug. 28 at Memorial Stadium can request tickets in advance of the public sale by mailing a postcard to NFL Preseason Football Game, P.O. Box 1957, Baltimore, Md. 21203-1957.The request should contain name, address, telephone number and number of tickets requested. Tickets will not go on sale until January.

New York City Orchid show Seven thousand orchids, the largest curated orchid show in the country, will be displayed in the Victorian-style glasshouse at the New York Botanical Garden. The show runs Saturday through April 22, and on Saturdays, music from around the world will be featured - representing the regions where the orchids originate. The Orchid Show starts Saturday and runs through April 22 at the New York Botanical Gardens. The gardens are open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Tickets for each of the Washington Bullets' November home games, including the home opener against Boston Nov. 2, are available for the general public.Six games -- against Philadelphia, Golden State, Orlando, Utah, Seattle and Atlanta -- follow the home opener. Fans can purchase tickets at all Ticket Master outlets, Phone Charge, or at the Capital Centre box office. Individual game tickets for the Orioles' 18 home spring training games at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla., will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. Spring training tickets can be purchased several different ways, but the team recommends purchasing them online or by phone to ensure the best game and seating options. Tickets can be purchased on at www.orioles.com or by calling 877-222-2802. Season ticket packages, group tickets, suites and other specialty areas are available by calling 941-893-6300.

Girls athletic teams of all ages are invited to take advantage of free tickets to a Women's Sports Day at the Bowie Baysox game Sunday.Several area sponsors have donated tickets to girls who participate in organized sports -- from T-ball to high school field hockey to community swim teams. COLLEGE PARK -- University of Maryland ticket manager Jack Zane said yesterday that the athletic department has sold about 500 of the 15,000 tickets for the Poulan-Weed Eater Independence Bowl game against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 15 in Shreveport, La.Tickets became available for sale Monday.Athletic director Andy Geiger said he hopes Maryland sells at least 2,000 to 3,000 tickets ($25 each) to break even in the game, which has a payoff of $600,000 per team."I've been impressed about the enthusiasm and excitement thus far," Geiger said.

In recognition of his contributions to cultural and artistic life in Maryland and Baltimore, Gov. Parris N. Glendening and Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke have proclaimed today "David Zinman Day" in honor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's music director.Zinman, whose 13-season tenure as BSO conductor concludes at the end of the season, this evening will lead the symphony in a one-performance-only tribute concert. Among the works included in the program is Beethoven's "Triple Concerto," featuring Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax and Pamela Frank performing together.

Single-game tickets for each of the University of Maryland's home football games will go on sale beginning today at 10 a.m. at the Baltimore Arena. Fans can purchase tickets with cash or check only.The Terps will open the season Sept. 7 at noon against Virginia at Byrd Stadium. Other home games are Syracuse (Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.), West Virginia (Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.) and Duke (Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m.). The Nov. 9 game against Penn State will be played at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Ticket quantities for the West Virginia and Penn State games are limited.

Football Ex-Raven Sharpe to Black College HOF The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that former Ravens tight end Shannon Sharpe has been selected for induction next year along with 10 others. The inductees will be honored Feb. 16 at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta. NFL Network's Charles Davis will serve as master of ceremonies. Before going on to win two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos and one with the Ravens in 2001, Sharpe was a three-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection at Savannah State from 1987 to 1989 and the SIAC Player of the Year in 1987.

The Orioles announced today that American League Championship Series tickets for potential Games 3, 4 and 5 in Baltimore will go on sale to the general public tomorrow Tuesday at 10 a.m. exclusively online at www.orioles.com/postseason. Ticket availability is expected to be limited. Season plan holders have already had an opportunity to purchase tickets as part of the postseason invoicing process and via an exclusive online pre-sale this past Saturday. Fans who previously registered for the postseason ticket opportunity on Orioles.com were notified this weekend if they were selected for the chance to purchase during a special online pre-sale that began earlier today.

A fund-raiser for Annie's Playground will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 15 at Edgeley Grove Farm, off Connolly Road in Benson. All proceeds benefit Annie's Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to honor the memory of 6-year-old Annie Cumpston of Harford County, who was killed in a drunken-driving accident last year. Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 to 12; children 2 and younger are admitted free. Tickets at the gate will be an additional $5 per person.

Approximately 3,000 tickets for the Ravens first home playoff game will go on sale at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Fans can purchase tickets either by calling Ticketmaster (410-481-SEAT), clicking on the Internet at Ravenszone.net or going to Ticketmaster outlets, which includes all Hecht stores. Ticket prices are $55 to $75 in the lower and upper decks of the stadium. About half the tickets available are for club seats, which range from $140 to $270. Tickets purchased will be used for Dec. 30 or 31, if the Ravens remain the AFC's fourth seed.

Major League Lacrosse announced Thursday that it will host the 2013 All-Star Game on July 13, 2013, at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.  The stadium is home to the Charlotte Hounds, a 2012 expansion team. The 2013 MLL All-Star Game will revisit the 2011 format in which two fans get to pick their fantasy All-Star teams on Friday night of All-Star weekend. They will serve as honorary captains and will take part in all team activities during the weekend. Tickets for the game are on sale now through the Hounds.
