When the Ravens and San Francisco 49ers meet in Super XLVII on Feb. 3, Sam Koch will get a chance to match his punting skills with one of the top punters in the NFL. Andy Lee is a three-time Pro Bowler who ranks first in 49ers history in punts (790), yards (36,295), gross average (45.9 yards) and net average (39.2). In the regular season, he led the NFL with a 43.2 net average and ranked third with 36 punts inside the 20-yard line. Koch, no wallflower himself with a career-high and franchise-record 47.1-yard gross average and a career-best 40.8-yard net average, has admired Lee's accomplishments from a distance.

It's been a long wait for Terrell Suggs to exact his revenge on the New England Patriots, and when the Ravens' 28-13 win was complete Sunday, he let loose. "Tell them to have fun at the Pro Bowl," Suggs said after the game to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports! about the Patriots. "Shut them out in the second half. Arrogant [expletive]. These are the most arrogant [expletive] in the world starting with [coach Bill] Belichick on down. " The Patriots beat the Ravens last year in the AFC championship game, 23-20, but lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.

Time will tell whether self-described "bully" Lance Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey can repair the good name he lost when the United States Anti-Doping Agency revealed the truth behind his carefully crafted "narrative" of survival and sports glory. For me, to forgive Mr. Armstrong or not isn't the issue. Instead, Mr. Armstrong's fall illustrates how effectively we regulate Olympic movement athletics in the United States, and how that model for regulation can enhance the integrity of college and professional sports.

Ravens speedy wide receiver Torrey Smith kept accelerating past Denver Broncos star cornerback Champ Bailey on Saturday, finding another gear that the veteran defensive back couldn't match or even approach. Shut down by Bailey earlier this season during a regular-season defeat in December at M&T Bank Stadium, Smith transformed his personal rematch Saturday into a steady measure of revenge. Smith made the perennial Pro Bowl cornerback look every bit of his 34 years on Saturday, burning him twice for touchdowns during the Ravens' dramatic 38-35 double-overtime victory at frosty Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

Art Modell, the owner who brought the Ravens to Baltimore, and Jonathan Ogden, the team's first-ever draft pick, were among 15 modern-era finalists announced Friday for the 2013 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The announcement, which came four months after Modell's death at age 87, was a significant milestone for the late owner's Hall of Fame candidacy, though the final verdict won't be announced until the day before the Super Bowl. Modell was an NFL owner for 43 years and played a major role in helping the league become a television superpower.

You can see it in his gingerly gate as he moves from his locker to the shower area, in the way he leans against a wall to take pressure off his right knee. Haloti Ngata's remarkable body hurts. This is easy enough to forget when you watch the Ravens on Sundays. The television announcers are more apt to talk about Terrell Suggs' Achilles or Ray Lewis' triceps. The camera, always following the ball, rarely settles on the trench warfare between Ngata and two or three offensive linemen nearly as big and powerful as he. His teammates know.

The LXM Pro Challenge had its final stop on the 2012 tour Saturday night in Del Mar, Calif., and Team STX defeated Team Sole, 15-12, in their series' seventh game, a contest that featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Team STX had already clinched the series victory with a 22-20 win in Henderson, Nev., on Dec. 1. After his record-setting seven-goal performance in Nevada, Sam Bradman (Salisbury) started right where he left off and beat former Sea Gulls teammate Johnny Rodriguez to give Team STX the early 1-0 lead.

If the Ravens wish to leave Cincinnati with their 11th win of the season and a hope of leapfrogging the New England Patriots for the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs, they need to find a way to neutralize Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins. In just his third year in the NFL, the 6-foot, 300-pound defensive tackle leads all interior linemen in sacks with 13, which ranks fifth in the league behind the likes of Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt (20½ sacks), San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith (19½)

Haloti Ngata, who was just named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl Wednesday night, did not practice for the second straight day, but defensive coordinator Dean Pees said he has no concerns about the defensive tackle's availability for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. “I think he's getting there,” Pees said of Ngata, who has been dealing with shoulder and knee injuries. “He's been banged up, it seems like, kind of all year here and there. But he's getting some well-deserved rest.” In addition to Ngata, fullback Vonta Leach and right guard Marshal Yanda sat out Thursday's session.
